They used a Hex editor to open up the IW4MP.exe file to get some info from it. Some of the info found in the file:

this is very very surprising.......

0071EB98: 'set systemlink 0; set splitscreen 0; set onlinegame 1; exec default_xboxlive.cfg',0
0070573C: 'menu_xboxlive_privatelobby',0

Some xbox live code in there....

0072A5CC: 'Amount to shift the player 3rd person model when leaning right',0

So lean was in even after their decision to have a 3rd person mode.

Also, WTF?!?

00787A50: 'Set to false to disable dx allocations (for dedicated server mode)',0
00701580: 'Show dedicated servers only',0
00702558: 'ui_browserShowDedicated',0

...Obviously removing dedi's was a decision made late in the day. Seeing the code still there is really erm....

WTF, that is weird.

That could potentially be a good thing though, maybe a dedicated server unlock would be done with a simple patch as the code is already there.

And i heard something where IW tested a link where xbox and pc guys played each other...might be where the xbox live code comes from...

This just makes it a lot more interesting...

I've also thought about the idea of all platforms playing on the same network seeing as PC users now use the same p2p systems. I'm not too sure if it would work and who would have the advantage. At least then it would not matter what platform you own you will always have someone to play against online.
