Considering the success of MW2, I have no doubt that MW3 will be released. Whether it will be revolutionary is a much more interesting question, especially with the loss of about 21 key staff at Infinity Ward. Personally, I think that the COD franchise will never truly recover from the loss of the key individuals that created the game. I hope I'm wrong though.

Infinity Ward is dead folks. I'm not sure about 21, but I know of at least 18 key people, including pretty much all their leads quitting. In any serious dev company, losing a single lead can cause things to get shaky, especially while people adapt to working with them. Losing ALL of them? There's just no recovering from it. No doubt Activision will fill up the ranks again and crack the whip until MW3 is out, but its passionate people that make up the heart and soul of a successful dev studio, not the money and not the whip.

Modern Warfare 2 was just a poor rehash of Modern Warfare with nothing new worth mentioning. Modern Warfare 1 was great, it was more or less a ride. No need to go straight into development making a Modern Warfare 3. There might not be a MW3 on the drawing board yet for Infinity Ward, but I suspect Treyarch haven't been sitting idle for the past few months. Modern Warfare was innovative for the series in unimaginable ways.

*lol* Since I didn't even buy MW2 (I did play it though, wasn't impressed) - I won't be lining up to buy MW3. That being said, they should hold off on starting it, pending the outcome of the courtcase; the former IW heads may end up with the rights to the MW brand.
Anyways, off on a tangent, I realise some of you have probably seen this before, but of those of you who haven't - a treat! The most realistic FPS evar!!

Not too sure about that, sometimes new blood is exactly what a franchise like COD needs. As long as they keep to the winning formula from the frnachise, I don't really see how they could go wrong.

Activision will probably try pump out a 3rd one to milk the cash cow, but it will not be even close to the same. In all probability it will kind of suck.
I suppose they might just give it to Treyarch, although they're working on some other CoD game at the moment.

Well MW1 was the legend, and MW2 was the follower, It was good but without proper lan capabilities it managed to get half of it's pre-orders cancelled. I think Modern Warfare 3 will be a good idea. Look at it in terms of Windows, XP was legend = MW1, then came Vista = MW2, not so good, and the came Win 7 = MW3, which is awesome, so hopefully the game will be the same.
