Moore's law has died at the age of 51

It is no surprise with Moore's law being incorrect these days. We cannot go to much smaller to keep the cost low and much of new research is in quantum computing and different materials that is some way before it gets into the commercial application phase.

Bio computing is also an interesting topic :3
 
Cost and profit seem to play a very big role with the new cycle intel are in.

I also think that diversity may be slowing things down, it's not just chips for computers anymore (although it never really was), we have everything from cellphones to routers that have more processing power than some of the top of the range computers from the last decade.
