BioShock 2 PC won't have LAN or dedicated servers for PC multiplayer

The big new feature of BioShock 2 compared to the original game is the addition of multiplayer features to the art-deco themed first person shooter. Now the game's official community site The Cult of Rapture has reveal some more multiplayer details and that includes admitting there will be no LAN or dedicated server support.

The reason behind why those features are missing is a lack of time in development with the Q&A stating, "We chose to spend the time we had creating a solid game foundation and unfortunately that did not include LAN play or dedicated servers." This seems somewhat odd since both games use Unreal Engine 3 which has native FPS multiplayer support. The multiplayer side of things was also developed by Digital Extremes which has ton of experience in FPS games (co-developing many of the Unreal-Unreal Tournament games with Epic Games).

The Q&A also goes over other items such as how they plan to handle multiplayer cheaters, why the game won't have ranked or unranked multiplayer servers and more. BioShock 2 ships to stores on February 9.

oh well...

Hey atleast we still have BF:BC 2 and AvP to look forward to :)

Well at this rate I might have to get a console, just thinking about it makes me want to gag.

heh, my reply was tongue in cheek. i never planned on playing Bioshock 2 in mp. but the drm used made my choice for me. console version ahoy

But seriously.

Was anyone actually planning on playing BioShock 2 multiplayer? Anyone?

Truthfully, Not really. But seeing that all these "unappealing" MP games are usually hits at my lans, I've learnt to try every game's Mp mode that I can get my hands on.

Stupid example, Saints Row 2. We didn't even really think of trying out the MP, until we were drunk and bored this one time. The Lan modes are a hoot, sometimes even more fun than GTAIV.

I remember lanning that when we were drunk at ur lan lmao :p

I'm really not concerned about LAN play in Bioshock 2....isn't this supposed to be one of those rare FPS games that you should buy for the Story Line (i.e Single Player campaign)?

well I spose no great loss since the 1st one never had it.... But such weak excuses... disgusting

I was never too concerned about the MP anyway, it looks like one of those throw away game types that's only fun for the first week until you return to old faithful.

I must admit if a game has a good multiplayer it attracts a lot of people, like myself i really enjoy GTA 4 multi when playing with a whole lot of friends, as well COD5 zombi map's can be great fun.
