More than 64 players per map just isn't fun, says DICE

Depends on map size. But mostly yes. Coz it turns into a spawn-rape fest. Spawn... walk 2 steps... DIE... Spawn... walk... DIE. NO FUN that.

It must also have something to do woth the size of maps I am sure if the maps are big enough and have enough flags to capture one can have more players. i do not think the SA net will be able to cope with it tho. Maybe I am wrong

64 Player combat is freakin' fantastic! It just feels like you're really part of a much bigger war than a deathmatch FPS. There's always something bigger going on than the small battle you're fighting with another player in a corridor, or the tank you're trying to RPG.

That's what makes Battledfeld 3 such a damn fun game. There's always some crazy shit going on all around you, and with 64 people playing, you will never know what to expect. With more players, more is possible, and that makes it all that much better than having less players.

More players would certainly make for some very interesting gameplay, but for now this will be good enough! :D

Oh there you are Tooken. I thought you were in a cryogenic freezer, waiting for tomorrow.

Definitely agree with Tooken on this one... If the map is big enough to make it fun it can be fun, because there are a lot of players, yes, but it's scattered all over the place etc..

But I think there should be a cap to it though and 64 just seems to be the right one. I think more than that it becomes a bit of a frenzy where you can just run and gun and be sure to hit something. Then die.

It all depends on the map size but 64 player was so much fun in BF2 and was the sweet spot for full vehicle and infantry warfare.

On the one hand bigger map could take more players, on the other hand getting left behind at base would require to run a marathon over half the map.

So I take it none of you ever played Joint Ops (128 player maps)?

The only reason why more than 64 players is a bad idea is because of the linear map design from that Battlefield abortion Bad Company 2. True Battlefield maps had huge open areas, so you cannot get easily pinned down and be spawn raped. The distances also made it perfect for maneuvering, flanking the enemy, or even circling around and catch them in the classic pincer movement.
Of course when more than half of your team is sitting at the airfield holding hands, it doesn't help.

The problem is that people seem to treat Battlefield like an infantry shooter with the vehicles as an afterthought. Battlefield was, at least until BF2's Infantry only mod, a vehicle driven game, with the infantry action as a secondary option.

I agree that map size helps, but as someone mentioned, if you happen to spawn at a base and a noob goes of with the last vehicle, knowing you would like a ride, it just isn't worth spending half of the match running across the map.... only to be run over by a team mate in a tank or buggy just as you near the enemy base. So the trick is to get the balance between player/map size right.

I still sometimes think that 32 players is the optimal model.
It's just so much fun being able to pick on one person exclusively for a few minutes non-stop.

Increasing the model to 64 players makes that already much harder to do. Still possible, but likely very tough to achieve.

If they were to amp it to 128 (for example), it would just becomes a nameless, faceless, pointless fragfest.
In that kinda situation, you might as well just go back to playing Duck Hunt...

Heh +1, Having a lot of things to shoot at is fun for a while, but at least know who your shooting :p
