Motherboard ASROCK Z97 Pro4

A yellow tag appears in my Device Manager against "PCI Simple Communications Controller".

After "googling" it appears that I must install Asrock's Intel Management Engine Driver ver. 10.0.0.1204 to fix it.

I found this file on my motherboard's DVD.

When running the setup I see that it wants to install to "C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components". However everytime I click next, it gives me the following message:

"The setup program ended prematurely because of the following error: The system cannot find the file specified."

I have "googled" to find a solution to rectify this, but got no decent answers.

I have even tried CCleaner and RegCure Pro to fix registry errors, but still get the same error message.

There is no way that I will format to fix this. It cannot be so serious so I will live with it. ;)

Yep! The downloaded file as well as the one the DVD gives the same error.

Same with "Administrator Mode."

Nothing works. Normally I can sort these problems out, but this one has got me by the shorthairs.

I have even cleaned out most of the rubbish in my Temporary Files. Can it be something do with the Windows Installer?

I have no idea.

Only other I suggestion I have is what they mention below the link in the support page: "*For Windows 7 (32 / 64 bit) OS, please click it to install Windows Update KB2685811 before installing Intel ME driver."

Yes I have done that also a few times and the message I get every time is that "Update for Windows (KB2685811) is already installed."

I am trying figure out the problem, but this one is genuinely difficult.

Thank you for your input in this matter. I appreciate you trying to help me. :)

Oh, you're welcome :)

I just wish I knew what the problem could be...

I can only otherwise suggest extracting the files to another part of the drive outside of Windows' directories (something like C:\drivers) and seeing if that might not help, but I don't think that would've been the issue.

Good luck to you all the same.

Thanks. I extracted the files to C:\Pkunzip and also to my external drive (E) with the same results.

I think the only way to fix this minor problem is to reformat and seeing that it has no influence actually, why worry? But if you are a perfectionist you always worry! :)

Jackpot! I opened and extracted the contents of SetupME.exe with 7-Zip. It broke it up in 7 MSI files. One of them fixed the yellow tag in my Device Manager. :)

I give 7-Zip a gold medal! :)

I see there are many views here (more than 130).

It should help anybody with a similar problem in future.

Even the suppliers of the motherboard in China, or Japan (where ever) gave advice that did not help.

That is why I love this forum. People stimulate you to think and many times somebody has also helped me when I was genuinely at a dead end. :)
