Mouse discussion. Best Brand? Pros/Cons?

Hi

I urgently need a new mouse, as my jellyfish, multicoloured,

optical mouse is the center of ridicule at lan events.

What are the brands to consider and avoid?

And what are the important things to look for when buying a mouse?
 
Ag to me it comes down to personal opinion. You can have a G9 at R1000 but play better with a Razer For R700.

Best is to try some out at lans and see what's the best for your hand in regards to comfyness etc.

I've owned quite a couple of gaming grade mice / mouses (G5, G7, G9, Some Razers, Steelseries and I am currently on a Roccat Kone, to me the best mouse I have ever owned.

So true, but I can expect that from Roccat, as their quality became evident the second I bought the Kave headset.

Well this should help narrow it down, im not a finger person, im a hand person (I know that didnt sound right...), but anyone who has tried out more than a few types of mouses will know what im talking about.
 
Meh, err prolly around R800.00 tops. I heard the Microsoft Sidewinder x8 has like a 180 degree turn around button. Is this a programmed macro? or is it a feature exclusive to microsoft? Just curious.
 
You can get the Roccat Kone for around R600 - R700. Then get yourself a Roccat Sense or Roccat Taito mousemat.

Razer FTW. My trusty Diamondback has lasted me for years and still works a charm.
 
Logitech fan here. I've used an MX510, 518 and G5 and all perform well, are sturdy, reliable, tough, etc, in fact i still have all 3, and all 3 still work fine. Use the G5 at home, 518 at work. Have had issues with Razer products. Build quality, to me, seemed 'plasticky', and have had microswitches give out after relatively short periods of time.

imo important things are - build quality, ergonomics, drivers. DPI/speed/etc these days is ridiculous and the difference between 800dpi and 3200dpi is simply not going to make you a better gamer.

yeah tried UT3 on 1800 DPI, its insane, you just end up doing 360's and time

But Logitech FTW, best peripheral maker in the world, imo :cool:
 
I just picked up a CM Storm Sentinel today, in fact. 5600 dpi which is ludicroous, but the real seller was the featureset-price ratio. Cost less than a Deathadder but has all the features of an Imperator.
 
Logitech G5 is the best mouse ever, holding it feels more natural then holding your own......
I wish I owned one :'(

So whats this about a 180 spin button? I could use that in those Matches with gradius!
 
I would suggest doing the following, Go to the next LAN and ask a few guys to test their mice, most people should allow you to at least touch the mouse they play with
See which brand and model you test feels best and get that

Btw, as we all know LAN's and gamers attending them are frequently the centre for all types of viral outbreaks, take some hand sanityzer :P

Please. My cheapo "gaming" mouse I bought for R350 has that.
 
Logitech, Roccat, Microsoft or Razer. All good, but like others have said in this thread, ask to try some out at LAN's. I have at least one model of each of these brands and they all still good to go :) I change mice like Xero changes diapers :P
 
I am really pleasantly surprised at my CM:Storm Sentinel. It was priced lower than any medium to top of the line Roccat, Razer or Logitech mouse i could find, it feels very pleasant, heavy, has a ton of features including adjustable weight, on the fly dpi switching (up to an incredible ceiling of 5600dpi), adjustable led colours, multiple profiles. Feels great, solid, heavy (which i like), tracking is superb. Software works great allowing assigning specific keyboard shortcuts to specific buttons as well as customizable macros and scripts offering more power and customizability than any Razer software I've used thus far. It really is an amazing gaming mouse for the price. I've only used it for a day but so far I'm very pleased, comes highly reccomended.
 
Had my Razer limited edition Diamondback since 2006, and my old trusty Viper which I used since 2004, my brother in law is using it now for the last 6 months.
 
I have used a few mice over the years.

The best fit G9 - Still working but miss clicks on the left button.

The longest lasting was Microsoft Laser Mouse

Razer Death Adder fits well for long term use -, also miss clinking after a few year of use

If I had to choose again I would go with the G9.
