Mouse pads - what’s the big deal?

Why I love my Razer Goliathus. Don't cost too much, has a good surface, foldable(I neuk it back in the lekke box when I go LAN) for LANs and won't move around much. With regards to the size, I do have the alpha edition(aka massive) but that is something I appreciate, the alternative one would be way to small, besides I can always put my keyboard over part of it when it gets too big for my space(LANs)

Yeah a mouse may work on any surface but who wants to use their gaming mouse on a desk. If you're gonna spend R500+ for a mouse because gaming is important to you, of course you're going to want a pad that will treat your mouse right as well as give you comfort and help you aim less like a doofus :D

And like Dragonic mentioned, one can fold a Goliathus and wash it too.

I have the Razer Goliathus Control Edition. I do not really care what brand I use. I use a mousepad for comfort and a smooth 'slide'.

Paid 20 bucks for an optical mouse pad with Gel wrist rest, made out of the same stuff your R200+ pads are made out of, just not as big ;)

Got a CoolerMaster promo mousepad at rage many years back - it's a small metal one but it works perfectly for me.

I've decided to trade in my current Mouse Pad for a updated one(last picture on the above site).
:)
If my wife finds out, I'll have to put my Razor Pad back...

Lol. As long as I have my mousepad with a gel wrist rest and it's able to prevent my mouse from picking up grime underneath as well as giving me a smooth glide as I move the mouse (like the syphilis riddled mice at campus .-.) then I'm pretty much happy with my pad.

Though I might consider a real proper pad at the end of the year. Need a change of scenery (esp if I can find a Olivia Wilde version :D) as well as a slight refurbish, I mean it's been nearly 2 years now :-P.

It's bugging me, and I hope you don't mind my asking, but why do you guys keep calling them "mouses?" Where'd that come from?

Just a bit of curiosity and yes, I'm aware that both "mice" and "mouses" would be correct

And on that one, it doesn't really matter. I think I read somewhere that both mice and mouses are appropriate when referring to a computer mouse

I don't normally use a mouse pad at home, but I do however own one that I take with me to Organized Chaos LANS and to any other LAN venue / friend's house where I'm unsure what the surface I will be playing on is like.

For me it's not really about the ability of the mouse to work on those surfaces, it's more the smoothness and comfort (or lack thereof) caused by some surfaces.

I don't see companies stop producing them anytime soon, they are a great way to promote a company, a great source of "fan" material for collectors (wow mousepads or what have you) and great for decoration or adding color to an otherwise bland or boring setup.

Mouse pads - what’s the big deal?

Gaming mouses can work well on almost any surface nowadays, so why do manufacturers still make money or ridiculously expensive mousepads?

Hmm I love mouse pads cause the surfaces I use are glossy or made of glass so the mouse doesnt work at all with those type of surfaces so thats why I use my plain black mouse pad on my coffee table.

I agree with the rubber mousepads stopping the mouse from slipping.

I've also got one and they are epic!

nice read.
Theirs not really that much of a difference between the low end and middle price range anyway.
The gel wrist thing is very nice to have though as well

Yep it is a good thing but don't think I would ever need a gel wrist personally. I require a wrist massager :D.

I've never worried about mouse pads, I got mine free from a friend and have been using that for around a good 6-7 years now...

I would love to see my kone+ on 6000 dpi* just work on just any surface without a jumping cursor...

...some mouses works better on other surfaces. I got my Kone+ yesterday and it's just kak on a soft pad compared to my table, reading up it seemed I should have gone with a hard pad rather.

*even at 3200 dpi still jumpy on soft pads and similar surfaces.
