Mouse pads - what’s the big deal?

Mad props to the writer for managing to sneak a pic of Olivia Wilde into an article about mouse pads. You win the internets. :cool:

I don't really care about the pads as long as its not those crappy plastic ones they hand out as promotional gifts.

I think its more of a question of texture than hardness.
 
Razer mouse pads do it for me. I have the double sided ExactMat (with gel wrist pad, cost about R220 back in the day) for home and a very thin MouseSports one that cost ~R100 for work. A decent pad is essential, not just for gaming. Otherwise u get all kinds of gunk building up on the mouse feet! :eek:

I have never seen one work properly on a desk. But it doesn't matter much which pad you use so I just go for the R20 ones as even a piece of paper works. Unless you need the wrist rest and whatever else not much use in paying more.
 
Very informative read; especially about the "unique look mouse pad". My mouse pad have seen better days and is about 10 years old, but it is still going strong. Will change it eventually.

Granted its a contentious issue, but to draw an analogy using cars, everyone's car can drive on gravel roads right, but it doesn't mean it's optimal!!! And if u r driving a Formula 1 car, then u need a smooth race track!

here's one for shits and giggles. I went yesterday to get a plastic cutting board (very thin) for R10. It preforms better than my R130 roccat sense pad...

...The glide cutting board is so smooth it's not even funny.

I heard ceramic tile can work just as good. I think I'll try the cutting board. Just have to get a smaller one as my desk space isn't so large.

Amen to that. Since my desk is always cluttered with my notes I tend to just prop my exam pad on top of the notes when I'm feeling to lazy to unclutter my desk and dig out my mouse pad :-P On weekends I tend to do a little more effort.
