MSI first hydra engine motherboard. Combine ATI + Nvidia

Here is al ink to the first msi Hidra engine motherboard

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1979

look good but the 3dmark score with nvidia+ati mixed cards is not looking to great. Am I missing something there.

But hey look you can combine nvidia cards like GTX280 + GTX260. Maybe if i get this when I upgrade I can keep my nvidia and just add an extra ati card or something. but I'll wait for proper drivers to be released

it sounds nice. but performance is bad at this time. I'll rather give it some time so that they can improve on it.

But look at this review and you see that it's better to have a Nvidia GTX285 with Radeon 5870 so maybe there is hope for me but I know this mobo is going to be like R3K+.

Expected retail for the MSI Trinergy P55 board is around R2500. I suspect the board with the hydra chip on it will be similar, since the Trinergy board has an Nvidia Nforce 200 chip, which also costs a fair amount of money to license...

Personally, I reckon it's worth it. Although something like the X58 allows you both crossfire and SLI, you're still limited to either ATI or Nvidia.... I don't mind be locked into a particular manufacturer (MSI/XFX/etc.), but I don't want to be locked into using only one Brand in my computer.

Valid point. By one brand, you mean Intel/AMD etc?

the geek in me is amped :)

must have hyrda motherboard. though i would prefer it to had 2x cpu slots one for amd and one for intel too :D

Yeah, save a year and then buy the latest best card available, just make sure they are not about to release something new in the next couple of weeks. ;) This should last you for the next year to save up again. :D

Sho a year is to short for me. maybe something like 2 years or what. i thinking of first upgrading the GPU and then if the GPU is to fast for the CPu then I will upgrade tat aswell. but for now my GTX280 and intel quad core will have to last.
