So this is what is currently happening in esports:

Trying to enforce BEE into something that didn't even exist pre-1994. This is absolutely idiotic. I felt physically angry after reading that article.

What are your thoughts?

However, what of privately owned events. The TELKOM DGL still seems to be 'milky white'. All you have to do is look at the photographs, and you will see very few people of colour.

wtf_is_this_shit2_RE_73_Million_Sharks_Killed_Every_Year-s468x349-71815.jpg

wow...just wow

So what's the plan, go to a township without electricity and give them R10K PCs?

You can't enforce colour here though, its only in the last few years that gaming as become competitive in SA and even then its a self financed sport at the start. Sometimes these idiots don't think

This is ridiculous. Sport is one of the few things on earth where colour truly shouldn't matter, only raw skill.

Granted it is a reality that white people are the ethnic group with the highest per capita income, which results in greater accessibility to technology which also results in greater presence in the online community[and e-Sports]; but it is ridiculous to suggest that the fix for this is to enforce AA/BEE on the level of an entire sport-spectrum.

Skill is Skill, regardless of ethnicity. They day may come when E-Sports have perfect ethnic representation but that day will only occur when e-Sports has a nationwide level of appeal and we are no longer such a small community.

BTW, I am a black dude and still find this practice abhorrent .

Wow just wow that is an absolute joke and like snare said yes whites generally do have better access but how is now enforcing color into teams going to change that in anyway... I have snare and dee in my team though so I should be safe I knew I kept you guys for a reason :D

Lol, so we are just your covers for your apartheid tendencies :P :(

This is Just sick... Wtf man.

Gaming has nothing to do with race. When I play a game against someone i dont know his/her age, race I see the game name and the skill that the player possess. Forcing teams to pick players in the team due to race is messed up. When it all comes down to skill and hard work. This due has lost my respect and I dont like most of the things MSSA dose because its not focus on what the players want. Just because MSSA offers colors for playing games dose not make them better.

I support Energy for going to play in the ESWC. The team showed that they are the best Dota team in SA of 2013 and they have the right to test there skills on an international level.

This BEE rubbish must not come into Esports. I dont have anything against anyone who has worked hard to be in a team but i have an issue when they are forced to be in a team because of Race. This will not help the team to bond and grow Esports in SA thats still very small.

AFF this pisses me off so much

Man its so sick to think about this, just thinking about the MyGG forums i dont know a lot of people in Real life i have met 2 people from MyGG but if i know a member is a girl, boy, black, white, fat, thin. It dose not show, all that matters is the opinion of the members and what they have to say. No discrimination and this is what gaming has as well. Idk why they even started this when the Gaming community is still growing.

Please man, gaming is a colour free zone. No one I play with cares what colour you are.

And I wouldn't say there's no representation...one of the best gamers I know is a coloured guy, he is godlike. If I made any team and he was also competing he's kick my ass every time. "BEE" has no place in eSports, except perhaps to force the price of broadband down so the average South African can get cheap access.

There is money involved now so the government would like to get a piece of the pie.

They will enforce whatever laws they like no matter what.
Rather build a few government sponsored gaming halls in every town in the country so that everyone could get access to a PC and then enforce your laws.

If they want all races to go into Esports. Easy

Tell Telkom/Government to stop the BS of Monopolizing the Telecommunication industry (land lines ) and let other companies to start land line hosting then more competitive industry will start and the internet will become cheaper when more more available.

Telkom is not bad but they dont have to push to be better then there is no competition so they dont care.

Like Markface said "gaming is a colour free zone. No one I play with cares what colour you are."

thats how it should be and should stay

This is so pathetic...although many good arguments are made...as posted early in this article...gaming is colourless...wehn you play against another person you don't know what race etc they are? This is about being the best at what you do. Yes people earning more money have an advantage through access to tech, but this is changing so rapidly!

If government is so hell bent on changing this, why don't they hold workshop, sponsor gaming rigs? They saying the only way to fix it is by forcing people of color into the teams?!? WTF. All just words for political points because they have seen how competitive gaming has gotten and wanna jump on the bandwagon... I personally wouldn't care what color a team mate was, as long as they were the best at what they did...I go to a compo I wanna win! :D By sending someone just to make quota, you making our SA gaming league look like fools imho...and people have to work really hard to get that far...

It's already bad enough that no one wants to play for MSSA now they just making it worse.
I'm coloured and minute for this twak.

What the hell. There's no racial barrier to gaming, financial yes, but that's what BEE, BBBEE, AA, etc are there to address. Gaming must be one of the least racist things there is because generally we don't know or care what race, colour, gender or age the people we are playing with are, just how they play the game.

And this...
According to the last census, whites only make up 8% of the population, but if you went to rAge, you would think that you were still living in a pre-1994 South Africa.

No-one selects who goes to rAge based on your race, if you want to go, you buy a ticket and go.

I'm sure as hell not stopping any black people from getting into gaming, maybe there just aren't that many black people who are interested in it...

Hey looks like malema is getting a hand in gaming.

Jokes aside. This doesn't really bother me. Gamers aren't constrained like other sportsman.
Let the retards put whatever quotas in place. Unlike others sports our gamers don't need massive bankroll to play international.

They just go online, no plane trip neccecary. The top gamers will compete outside official capacity and will prolly be better off for it. The is governance treading into a territory they have no fcuking clue about. pants_on_head_stupid.jpg

Most games are online these days so just buying a PC won't work, if you want to enhance E-Sports you got to have good quality 3G modems you can buy for R200 in your local store, that comes with a dashboard that supports all the networks in South Africa on all the windows.

Then you gotta to be able to buy any amount of data, at 3c a Meg on prepaid, without any contracts, obligations or whatever. If SEA which has some of the poorest regions in the world can explode in e-sports just by having chap bandwith then so can SA of all races/color whatever (on the internet no one is as they appear anyways)

It always comes back to the government's pursuit of gwop doesn't it.

This will all blow over in a week.

The Gov doesn't even know what E-Sport is.I'm laughing at the last comment on the blog.

I agree, give it a few weeks and it'll die a quiet death like it never happened. It could also flare up and be the next hot topic in Parliament. Topic headline: Why gaming is predominantly white in SA. lol
