MTN to introduce true uncapped mobile broadband from R299

I shal believe it when I see it. I assume after the promotion is over you'll get throttled like a murderer at his own hanging. But still kudos to MTN for trying this effort again. I doubt with our current infrastructure it will be able to support that many customers. But maybe MTN has some nice tricks up their sleeves

So you lure customers into a 24 month contract where the biggest selling point is something that is only valid for 4 out of the 24 months? This makes me a sad panda.

super frustrated panda! So game and download the crap out of them for 4 months!

Well, we can all wait and see. MTN has been known to add some nifty things into the market and lately they've been trying their best to care for customers as best they can. I just think that there should be some more clarity on what they're trying to do here. If they really want to gain a huge amount of loyalty here, they should remove that cap completely for those contracts - thereby offering proper uncapped data in South Africa (for a mobile operator) AND not just using it as a marketing gimmick. C'mon MTN! You know you want to! You know we want it! Make it happen! Make it Ayoba!

Was thinking about getting it until I saw the contract part. Just another way to catch customers.

Well since I've been waiting for an ADSL port for the past 3 months from Telkom and still don't have one I might just cancel with them and go with this deal. Anyone know how the latency is with MTN?
For the past 2 weeks I haven't even been able to get my XBOX online with Vodacom 3G.

Ja, good luck to the current normal MTN data guys. Speeds will probably be crawling.

But if it does work properly, it'll be pretty epic for the price. Be it for 4 months only.

Maybe they trying to gauge what the impact will be on the network if they have a truely uncapped solution... Considering a four month trial is a huge deal for them as they extending the offer to current uncapped subscribers.

As for speed, i am on the MTN network, not the uncapped both my contract and prepaid sims are connected at 3G and 3.5G most of the time... very rarely does it move to edge. I am not sure how it is for gaming though.

Maybe MTN's network has the grunt to hold it. Who knows? But it will be interesting to see what happens. If they choose to pursue the idea, then I think I'll migrate to them without a doubt. Their network is pretty decent, but their prices is what drove me away originally. But then again the other cellular networks are just as criminally priced at times XD

I would have gone for this if it wasn't a 24 month contract. Currently I've got a Cell C 5 GB/pm prepaid connection and I'm very happy with it. I'm looking for something similar to this MTN deal to add to the Cell C data but in 2 years things will hopefully look a lot different bandwidth wise than it does now.

I would wait four months and see what MTN decides before getting this contract. I also expect rival networks to challenge this offer.
