MTN xbox live

My roommate wants us to get the MTN uncapped 3g package.

He mostly wants it for his phone and some general PC browsing - I on the other hand have got a Xbox now I want to know is playing over the 3g a good experience or do you get a lot of lag issues?

I know they throttle your speed after a while so I need to know, will that mean I can only use the first few gig for gaming and the rest for browsing and updates or will I still be able to play the entire time?

Thanks guys - I have not been able to find this topic so decided to create this thread, if it is already discussed you can post a link and I will read there.

Don't bother with this for gaming. I Have the uncapped MTN package and got an additional ADSL connection for gaming cause it sucked so much.
Anyway, I remember reading on mybroadband some time ago that MTN has discontinued the uncapped packages so you won't be able to sign up even if you still wanted to, sorry.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.
The speeds on that package were not bad, the problem is the latency and packet loss is not acceptable for gaming.
I would recommend getting a LTE dongle on a 8TA 10GB package for round R200 if that's possible.

Cool will run it by him. But I don't want to spend R500+ for a DSL line because I can DL from work so no point in spending so much money for something I already partially have.

As far as I recall it was not "uncapped" like you are thinking in the sense. Speed drops to 256Kbps after your 3GB soft cap is reached. Heard some bad things about it, badly shaped, slower than dial up and also dependant on coverage for speed.

Rather get a 8ta 10Gb package and a 3G to wifi dongle for your Xbox.

I wouldn't use 3G for online play... It's not as stable (imo) as a landline connection.
