Music Discussion Thread

the music of today is just artist repeating words

Useless statement, just to get points up.

Depends what artists though.. some Pop artists might, like beyonce, thats a good example.

Other more matured genres actually do not repeat anything, unless you are referring to the chorus which is repeated in every song?

Dear sir. I do believe that you are only listening to certain kinds of music and that you should try some of the amazing stuff that is out there. I know that you are just trying to up your post count but oh how I wish I can play music for you that will give you shivers and make you moan for more.

If i may ask how old are you :) i'm 35 in March

Paul van Dyke used to be my Fav dj back when i was in school along with Paul Oakenfold, and Chicane i have their new Cd actually

For me Tiësto's Kaleidoscope and Kaleidoscope Remixed were some of his best work

I like John O'Callaghan and Tydi as well, But have you heard of Andy Blueman i think you would like that

I'll be 28 next month and my first exposure to electronic music was hearing ATB - 9pm ('til I come) off a Bump CD. For a long time it was my favourite tune until I came across Beyond Time by Blank & Jones off a mixed CD of theirs. But in college I discovered Nu NRG and they became my all time favourite producers (very sad that they broke up ) and their track The Moon Loves the Sun is still my all time favourite trance track. Funny enough that you mention PvD as he's the one who actually discovered Nu NRG and because of that he is also a big favourite of mine! :D

His live sets from 2002-2004 is some of the best mixed trance I have ever heard in my life and to this day I still haven't heard anyone who can mix quite like him! :wtf: Which is obviously the reason why he won the title of No. 1 DJ in 2005 & 6.

With the names you mentioned one track immediately comes to mind: Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun [DJ Tiësto Remix]

As for Tiësto's best work my favourite would have to be his Copenhagen: Elements of Life World Tour DVD, particularly Disc 2: The Sound of Tiësto. Man, what an amazing concert! In fact here's one of my favourite tunes from that DVD:

^ When you watch the above you'll understand my jab at Armin for making heart symbols. :p

And yes I have heard of Andy Blueman. His work is also very similar to Simon O'Shine and Ciro Visone. I tend to listen to his tracks when I want to chillout though. One artist who I followed closely around the same time when I was following Tiësto was Airbase, man that guy had an unbelievable ability to make amazing remixes. Sadly he seems to have dropped off the radar for some reason. He actually did an amazing job remixing Elements of Life and his own productions from back in the day were top notch. I'd highly recommend checking him out, in fact most of his stuff is uploaded to his Youtube channel.

Yeah i also love my music and Mephisto we can say the same for you Xiphan i think i finally found someone i can talk trance with He stooped doing trance for a while as he said that his love for the music had died because of too much mainstream being pushed into it and only in the last 2 years i think he started comeing back into the scene which makes me happy

He is Also one of the verry Few Dj's that have done a lot of work for EA

Also tell me what you think about BT?

@ Xiphan - I may not be into your music but damn, you are passionate about it. A real music lover.

Thanks man and yeah, I'm very passionate about it as it's gotten me through some tough times in my life.

Woohoo! Sweet! I'm keen to talk trance anytime! :D

He did work for EA? Huh, something I didn't know but then again I stopped following him that closely when he decided to take that break.

As for BT I love them! My personal favourites are:

BT - Flaming June
Tiësto feat. BT - Love Comes Again
The Roots & BT - Tao Of The Machine (I know, I know not trance but this is an awesome tune from the Most Wanted OST)

I'm trying to decide which artist to ask you about now and I'm going through my music collection but there is simply too many to choose from.

Better yet have you ever mixed anything yourself? I made the following CD a while back which you may enjoy: https://soundcloud.com/xiphan/exultation-2

I'll Def DL that and i used to be a house DJ back in my varsity years just after school, but i moved on from that when gaming work and rugby got just to intense oh and i got married and had kids :p

Yeah Paul did some work for EA Games as did BT along with a few other games actually apart from the Most Wanted stuff.

Have you heard this by BT - Morceau Subrosa it's absolutely amazing for a real laid back chilled out sat morning 2 when your bored and doodling through your games but don't know what to play, set i love it when i'm in a real bad mood i listen to it too

But my Fav Bt song has to be the one with his Daughter, Forget me where she sings at the end :) and Suddenly

He also did work for the New Movie Solace with Anthony Hopkins and Collin Farrel and his vision company dis a whole bunch of things for the movie Real Steel and the TV series Betrayal.

He's very popular in the film/game industry because his one of the few DJ's that put that much passion into his music

I don't really have anyone to talk shop with... :( Not many people, even metalheads, appreciate prog.

I do, but I'm still a prog noob. Only really got into Coheed & Cambria and The Mars Volta, but I've got some Rush somewhere that I've got to give a spin. Any suggestions of what else to try?

Well, the obligatory Dream Theater mention is in order? Other than than, you can definitely try Circus Maximus, Haken and Shadow Gallery. They're all melodic prog bands, so should be fairly easy to get into.

I doubt theres much indians here from no replies to the Indian movie I posted in the ''Last movie watched thread''

But anywhoo any of you guys listen to Bollywood music?

Listening to Phinehas and After the Burial at the moment. Just great metal going on there.

I also like electro, one producer in particular....calls himself SHE. youtube shemusic if you are keen, its like nothing ive heard before, its a mix of chiptek and electro but with insane melodies. Some of his stuff off the journey album sounds like it belongs in the mass effect universe.
