MWEB 2MB/4MB uncapped issues???

Hi everyone

I need the assistance of those staying in Cape Town Northern suburbs areas.

I am planning on getting this package and need to know from you, those who are current MWEB clients to tell me whether they are reliable, stable and the connection does not falter.

I had previous problems with Telkom and Afrihost and do not wish to into something I will regret.

Please I miss having internet and playing online, so I need answers ASAP.

How much data do you use ?

Sadly most uncapped solutions are rather heavily throttled these days and the general experience hasn't been good for me.
I switched from WebAfrica's uncapped to their capped bundles and haven't had any issue since. Pay the same for the general data that i used to use on uncapped but no latency problems.

So it depends on what you want and what you need.

Agreed with Nimatek there.

Another factor to take into consideration is that it is a known issue and one we (as a business) constantly have troubles with is the fact that Cape Town exchanges are so over congested that this becomes a major factor. If you aren't very data usage heavy then I would go as far as recommending you go for Fiber.

Edit: Example; Our offices in Claremont can't even be put on to 10mbps due to congestion. Thus we have 4x 4mbps bonded and we still struggle to get 8mbps on a good day.

Unfortunately I can't comment on the Cape Town situation itself, however I left MWEB after just a few months because they throttled me to death, even when I was not downloading a lot.

Currently I am with Crystalweb, and I must say, so far they are great. I get full speeds any time of the day and great customer service. I am on their 4Mbps uncapped at the moment, planning on going the 10Mbps Capped route soon though. They are a bit more expensive than other ISP's perhaps, but I'm willing to pay a bit more if I get the speed I pay for.

None of this will help though if your exchange is congested or the line from the distribution box to your home is iffy. Check on your modem what you max line sync speed is and how much noise you have, it will at least give you an indication if your line is syncing well or not.

My ADSL line isn't active at the moment.

The 4MB gets throttled at 100gigs

I mainly need the internet for gaming and doing updates,my dad likes streaming Youtube. So I doubt we'll be using much.

I'm hoping MWEB will give me great streaming and connectivity during day and night without screaming at my router at why I can't connect to the internet.

KofDelight I would seriously suggest you look at a capped solution instead. If you know it aint going to be that much data, don't even tempt your blood pressure with the ensuing problems you'll have when trying to phone mweb support.

Have a look at WebAfrica's capped deals, day to day data isn't bad, but their download hours limit was doubled so you can do a LOT of data in a month still without the headaches of being throttled.

Thanks all who gave their opinion and their experiences.

I have signed up today with MWEB 2MB uncapped.

I'll see how it goes for the first month and if I'll be happy with them.

Mweb's Premium uncapped service is amazing.. enough said :)

I was a heavy doubter but once i moved into their premium service i ever stopped using my gold IS account as the overall throughput was better.

as said earlier in saying this it rely's more on your exchange than at provider side most of the time. but yes Mweb is a good provider overall from my point of view

Personally I would have gone with the WA products. I have been super happy with their service and reliability!

But anything is better than Afrihost...

WA is a lesser of the evils but my issue with them ( and i am not sure if its just me ) when i was at my old place on a 4MB line with Wa/telkom i would not be able to stream netflix and play a high response game such as dota.. it just felt the overall pipe allocation was a little sticky.

on mweb premium i could stream on my apple tv with the gf watching and me streaming on my 2nd screen a different show and play dota on a 4mb line
