MWEB ADSL 4MB Uncapped problems

Hi everyone.

I have a 4MB uncapped account with Mweb and for a fortnight my internet has been running at about 0.5MB and below. I have tried sorting it out with them but it is a weekend and my manager of my account is not available on weekends.

Has anyone had similar problems? I am in Cape Town if that helps.

First Check here:
http://www.mweb.co.za/helpcentre/NetworkStatusNotices.aspx
Next check if it's a telkom problem
After that check that you network is secure wifi/router.

Otherwise...

You have probably been throttled. If that is the case, either wait till next month for a reset, or get another ISP. By the sounds of it you line seems to be shared, so people are probably abusing the system and downloading over ~300 Gb's in less than a month.

My speed just went up to 1.2MB today...(Someone is watching my posts...)

What do you think about swapping to Afrihost 4 or 10MB line?
 
Mweb 4mb uncapped standard accounts have gone for a ball of c**p

I changed for a 2mb uncapped permium account (unshaped) to a 4mb uncapped standard account and the latency issue was immediately noticeable...and I wasnt being throttled...I checked and confirmed with mweb.

I since changed to axxess account (u can get 3gb account for free to test) and all my woes are gone! ;)

Sadly a lot of the mweb services have fallen to disarray when they started shaping people. I am on 2Mb and I have 0 problems, although I did move from 1Mb due to excessive shaping.
 
MWeb has been bad enough to us that we cancelled and are moving to Afrihost. However ever since we gave them notice they've been showing us what 'bad' is Really Like. Now our connection gets dropped regularly.

Previously is was merely latency and overall slowness (shaping on games like FFXIV ARR of all things) as well as slow streaming (but wonderful torrent speeds, excellent logic, MWeb). Previously I was able to use a VPN (BattlePing) to get around the gaming throttling, but now the connection drops are so frequent and unpredictable that I cannot do anything. Just by the way, it was 4MB Uncapped Premium.

Did they think we wouldn't tell others about this?
 
Just an FYI - Being a customer/previous customer of Mweb, webafrica and afrihost I can confirm that mweb's torrents are really bad on a 4mb standard uncapped account. Usually sits around 1/2kb/s all day long and if I'm REALLY lucky I may see 100kb/s/200kb/s in the evenings. I'm dropping mweb ASAP

If your going to do 200gig plus I would say go with afrihost I might be shaped but atleast I can still surf and watch youtube vids without too much hassle.
 
A bit of a necro here but... Mweb has started throttling me at about ~80gigs of usage on my 4 meg uncapped line. Is this normal? I mean I don't even torrent stuff so I don't understand why the limit is so low.

Mweb throttles heavily on non premium accounts. upgrade to premium?
