MWEB bumps up ADSL caps for free

We were working from their press release; details were scant and we wanted the news up ASAP.

What are you paying now? The prices listed are for the new packages so I'd assume if you spot your 'old' price, it should reflect increased data.

We'll probably do a comparison article to follow up soon.

"MWEB does not throttle any uncapped ADSL product and gaming traffic receives the highest priority"

how true is this statement? dont mweb still have a fair usage policy?
any high use mweb subscribers pls comment

tks

Hmm, I'm on the 2gb option, with line rental included, which according to their site is R200 a month. Been planning on getting rid of the account, seeing as I've got an uncapped account from Openweb, but if they increase the data I might just keep it as a backup account.

They say that they don't throttle, but they shape. Quite heavily, I might add.

Well I've been with on a 4Mb uncapped package with Mweb for the last year and they have a shaping policy but it is very lenient. They only shape peer-to-peer traffic and only between 8AM and 8PM on weekdays. Gaming traffic does receive top priority and I always get 450KB/s direct download speed no matter when I am downloading. This is with an average usage of about 60-70GB per month.

The shaping on the P2P traffic is also not that bad. During the day I get about 150-200KB/s on torrents and after 8PM or on weekends I get 400KB/s.

I've also been using Mweb uncapped and have had zero issues with shaping on games, and download speeds remain at full speed for my TV shows.

They still have a fair usage policy which is enforced by throttling or warning messages, especially if you use torrents with public trackers. People downloading from news servers are less prone to warnings for high usage. Something I observed.

I have had great service from Mweb's uncapped service so far with average download speeds. I hope Telkom's effort is at least comparable.
