Mweb linespeed choices for international MMO gaming

Ok so before this topic gets going, please don't discuss anything about switching ISPs etc, I'm with Mweb and it's staying that way for now.

I'm a big gamer, namely World of Warcraft, and I'm trying to decide about line speeds.

Currently I'm on an Mweb Uncapped and Unshaped 512 kbps account (that's the business account) for R988 p/m.
However I'm sure you all know Mweb has been playing around with their pricing and have been bumping up all 512 customers to a 1 meg free of charge... except not the business accounts.

The uncapped but shaped 4 meg line option is R899 p/m, which is roughly what I pay for my 512 unshaped line.

My problem is, I get my gaming done before off-peak hours as I'm the kind of person who needs the solid 7-9 hours of sleep a night, hence end up finishing off with the computer between 9 and 11pm.

Would it be a mistake for me to switch to the faster line speed but be at the mercy of shaping? Anyone else here who plays on a shaped line successfully or that has tried both mind giving me some feedback?

Again, this is nothing about the ADSL company, or what their prices or reliability might be compared to other ISPs. I'm purely wanting some opinions about their 2 diff services.

Thanks.

P.S. since I eventually decided to make this post, I may as well throw in another question that's been burning a whole in my head and not able to find the answer for it.
What is usually considered to be the upper end adsl usage? Meaning how much do the upper portion of SA downloaders actually download per month? Just for interest's sake :)

I would say upgrade to a 4meg.

Here is my latency just to give you a rough idea what to expect.

Ping to London: 268ms
Ping to Boston: 344ms

My total usages for Last month (August 2011) was 75 gig

Total usage for the month before (July 2011) was 109 gig

Usage for this month: 7 Gig.

(Youtube + source mods :P)

I've been thinking about this as well, mostly of what ISP to choose for 4mb, since I'm still on 384kb. Thinking of going Afrihost capped tbh. Mweb maak droog, and Openweb seems to be having problems now days as well. As yet undecided.

Reason I'm thinking of Afrihost capped is because I don't really use more than 30gb a month.

I'd go for a 50gig afrihost account. The novelty of downloading with an uncapped wares off after a month or two, and then you are stuck with an adsl account that has high pings and inconsistent low levels of service.

I have an unshaped uncapped 10mb account that can download 10gigs in 2 hours, yet last month I didnt even download more than 60gigs because I just didn't feel like downloading anything.

not sure of your location, you did not state it in the post.

if you are using business adsl with the static i.p you get i.p from jhb meaning you get jucky seacom bandwidth.

if your in cape town get normal shaped adsl, then you go though the cpt data centre and get nice sat-3 bandwidth, which will be a huge improvement.

but yeah if you are up north, you go though jhb data cente anway, so just get shaped 4mb a, as mweb unshaped wow data
anyway.

i live 4km away from cpt data centre so with no downloads running i can raid with 168-180ms :)

This might be to slow for you, but I live in Cape Town using a 384k line and i get 180 - 210 latency in WoW if no one else in my house is using the internet in a 10-man raid or battleground, and around 250-300 latency in a 25-man raid, which is very good. But I changed some settings in my system register which increases my packet sending and stuff(Not really sure what it does), but it increased my ping alot and I don't use lowerping,WTFFast or any 3rd-party program to run these games.

Edit: O ye btw I'm using uncapped, R350 a month
