MWeb or Afrihost for Gaming

Well i can with disappointment say not afrihost or mweb seeing as i have a premium uncapped with mweb and i do an avg of 170Gb a month, now all of a sudden i'm being throttled so badly on a 2mb line that i download at .24kb/s so after inquiring about it i was informed that i'm in the top 1% of high users on my package, does that mean they only have a client base of 1K?

So i moved over to Afrihost and that was an even worse mistake, been there for 2 months now and the most i've been able to do is 50Gb over 2 months because their lines are permanently shaped because of bandwidth allocation problems from mtn.

Try openweb i have a few friends with them no issues and i now have an account with them too and it already feels much better than the other 2 is's

Mweb and the others went bad recently for some reason (Afrihost/Axxess went to MTN) and don't think they will ever change so thats why I am sticking to Telkom.

Im actually on Axxess, there was a technical snafu the other day, but it was resolved same day...not had any issues with latency etc on axxess as yet...however I dont download much normally. Humblebundle however is changing this lol :D

It is so weird that, a few months ago, I got massive high ping (255-1900 ms) on my 4mb line and my brother in law gets low ping on his 1mb line. He is with Mweb and I am with Afrihost. I investigated and found that it was out exchange that was causing the issue not the ISP. Recently I've been getting low pings of 16-22 ms and that has been going on for the past two months till now so it looks like Telkom sorted the exchange out.

I am very happy with Afrihost as I played loads of Black Ops 2 online and never really had a huge issue with them. They give very good support and shaped me only a few times close to the end of the month.

Mweb should not be an option anymore, for anyone. Unless you only do emails or something not-so-bandwidth-intensive.
On afrihost business, my international ping is around 160 - 180ms and local 15 - 40ms Depending on the server I join.

I used to have the Afrihost 1MB uncapped (way before all these upgrades). Was the best for gaming for me. I recently had to move and picked up their mobile deals. Right now I'm in a flat which has the worst signal and data throughput, but somehow my latency stays stable. I just do not know how.

So I would recommend Afrihost for gaming. Plus, don't they like have a gaming package option?

Since it got necroed Afrihost has been better these days with 190 ms in my international games which is quite exceptional compared to what it use to be when they made the switch over to MTN which was usually over 250 ms.

I use Afrihost mobile and its reasonably stable but thats got more to do with mtn and your coverage but 7 GB for 200 rand is a bargain on mobile. Wonder whats going to happen after february, Me thinks it's going to drop to 3GB .

I think they might extend it, or make the changes permanent.

I'm in an EDGE-only area, so eventually downgraded my 5gb to the 500+500mb package as lots of gigs go to waste.

Eventually found out the huawei router i got with has some shitty reception. People around me ge HSDPA signal on their phones but the router itself only edge.

But still value for money

From what I've heard the best uncapped package for gaming is Afrihost Business Uncapped as you aren't shaped at any time of the day. However for what you were looking at spending on a 4Mbit line + 50Gb will only get you a 1Mbit uncapped bundle, which is actually okay for gaming provided you are the only person using the line.

Well i'll stay with openweb thank you had way too many issues with both mweb and afrihost specially after mweb started throttling their premium clients. and afrihost i moved to after that and from day one i had issues so much so that i couldn't even do a speed test. thyen i heard they are throtteling all uncapped accounts due to a bandwidth allocation problem from mtn that's why they throttle all uncapped acounts. been with openweb now for 3 months and only minor issues
