MWEB's R219 uncapped ADSL and gaming

Well ive applied just gotta get my id and proof of address and everything else tomorrow to send off to them.

If you sign up this month its prorata only pay for half the price

I was thinking it was mweb now got the best uncapped 4096 offering at R539 thinking about getting that for a month or two and see how it goes. If its rubbish you can always cancel.

webafrica... tier 1 == little discount, same and more expensive
mebweb... tier 1 == cheap ass uncapped, moer discounts ?

makes one wonder.

We might still see WebAfrica respond to this.

When they brought their latest set of packages out they probably had the best set of offers on the market. As well, MWeb is part of a much larger group - they can probably stand to take a bit more risk than a standalone.

Some important questions for when someone gets an account up and running:

1. Is international connectivity satellite or fibre, prior to this, all Mwebs offerings used satellite. Express+ offerings use fibre.
2. What's international latency like? ping www.google.com -t, 200-250ms would put it on par with the current Internet Solutions Express+ offerings.
3. Is it shaped/unshaped bandwidth? The current Express+ offerings are unshaped.
4. Any other limitations like rolling throttling/thresholds? Express+ offerings have throttling and rolling thresholds during business hours.

No shaping and international fibre are the two most important to me for international gaming. If they meet those criteria, then WOW, this would be the most affordable and value for money uncapped offering to date. If not, then its just meh, the Express+ offerings at R999 would still be better value for money.

EDIT: By the way, for the people thinking they could potentially use this for torrents, DON'T. I know from personal experience that Mweb monitors torrent traffic very closely from when I had a Mweb business uncapped connection. They have no problems with legitimate large downloads though like Steam.

Thanks for raising those queries, I be doing a full write up and include this info. If what you say about them monitoring torrent usage is true, then they will lsoe a lot of their prospective clients on thsi offering. Time will tell I suppose.
