My Gtx 480 - Results and general impressions

Differences between Dx9 and Dx11 is massive!!,I agree with Shooter,I will never play dx9 again if I can help it.It's a lot of money for a dx11 card,so from that perspective it might not be such a easy decision but I recon that in the next year or two Dx11 is going to be in all the new games so then you will reap the benefits of a Dx11 card.Btw ran Metro 2033 last night for about 2 hours,Frames never go below 55 and getting up to 88 in some areas, temps never went above 58 deg's!!

Cheers

Yeah, unfortunately I have a limited budget for the card. Any chance of selling that 280?:D

Ya, DX9 really sucks, but luckily I am upgrading soon, so good riddance

@jasong if you look at all the posts in this thread by me,you will see that heat is definately not an issue,I have yet to see anything over 61 deg's with the fan on 100%(the only way I game). As far as power is concerned I am running a Corsair Tx 750 psu with a single 60 A 12v rail and both my gpu and cpu is overclocked and there is still plenty power on tap. There is a lot of negativity about these cards out there but I am extremely happy with mine and performance speaks for itself!!

Cheers

My view and have seen in general, from dx9 TO dx10, not a huge difference at all, and most games there is performance loss in dx10. I can't comment on dx11 cause i am still on my 4870. I play bc2 in dx9 with great performance in max detail. Considering a 5850 in time, seeing it's x2 faster than 4870. It's all about price vs performance for me. I will try and get some dx11 videos on bc2...

Yes unfortunate it difficult times out there and things have to be considered: price/performance..etc...etc. Dont watch vids..Go see it yourself( DX11 Cards ) performing and ask the person then to play it on DX9. DX10.1 was "gimmicky" but DX11 is the future. As Vetbeer is indicating in games that truly support DX11 there is great contrasts and look at the frmaes he is getting. Vetbeer i envy you , enjoy your GTX.

Dre,not seeing real performance hits on dx11 vs dx10.I am getting 78-103 fps most areas with Dx11 and with Dx 10 probably about 10 fps more. But with those frames considering 32xAA abd 16XAF I really dont need anything more.I normally put vsync on to keep a steady 60fps so my lcd can keep up with the gtx!!Mind you I hardly get any "tearing" when running Metro and BFBC2 with vsyn off.

10 fps is huge if you had to compare with mid ranged cards. In your case does not make a difference...

Dre did you see those shots were taken on "low quality",makes a difference. Also I found that things look different on your screen compared to someone else's screenshot.Look like I said in previous posts, its nice but not mind blowing nice. It's a nice to have and I personally think it's much nicer in Dx11 compared to 9 or 10.Also when you crank up the AA and AF it looks better still.

Cheers

OK got my GTX 480 and must say i am happy. Runs much cooler for me than reported. I played BC2 for more than two hours and the card never went past 76 degrees and the fan @ 45%. One thing though this card needs a Quad core or higher CPU in order to use its full potential.
