My PC Gaming

6 posts and tuning the locals, who you asked for help?

You are seriously not going to be here very long, are you?

im running 3 modules and it works fine ;)

Maybe I have it confused with DDR2...? I dunno, but somewhere along the lines I picked up 1,2,4 slots work, 3 dont (i CANNOT think its just for "dual channel" since 1 won't hehe). My bad though, I have checked up and his mobo doesn't mention anything about 3 ram sticks not working...but i think i can definitely (lazy now) find some old mobo's that DIDN'T support 3 sticks :D

Aaaanyway, my bad :)

if you run 3 sticks (modules)

2 run in dual channel mode and 1 in single channel, if i add another module (ie the one i installed in my htpc) then it automatically runs in quad channel mode. i think its just a 5% impact on performance by running the one stick in single channel mode.

Just checked with my boss. There definitely WAS a time when you couldn't run 3 sticks of RAM on a pc, it still applies to certain server boards today. But its no longer the case in general :)

learn something new every day :)

I've never actually experienced anything like that apart from when a pc is running onboard video and the genuises who assemble it does not install the 1st memory module in bank 0

i know some of the intel boards with the x58 chipset run triple channel ram so they actually encourage you to use 3 modules, its switches to dual channel if you only have 2 indentical modules.
