MyGaming Awards 2011 – the Anti-Awards

Have to disagree with Dead Island being the most disappointing. Sure, it didn't live up to the initial trailer, but it was still an awesone game. There are so many more disappointing games that came out this year: Call of Juarez Cartel, Bodycount, L.A. Noire, Dungeon Siege III, etc.

/Shudders.

Why?

I believe I just finished the 'training' levels.

I annoyed the living HELL out of me. Found it too predictable, the clues more akin to giant exclamation marks that subtle bread crumbs. I actually couldn't finish it, just got bored. I found the mechanics to rigid, like when you watch a episode of Law and Order and just know person X is going to end up murdered after they leave police custody.

I'd have to kind-of disagree with two items.

Duke Nukem Forever, was NOT a good game... BUT the multiplayer component is actually kinda fun. To be honest, I'll play it again if I have the time (the MP that is) and the MP part of the game should actually "save" DNF to be runner up instead of number 1 worst game.

Then Dragon Age 2, know this wasn't in the article, but 4th runner up? When I initially played it when it was first released, I wasn't really impressed but I recently got all the DLC and started playing it again and it is quite good. Maybe as a Dragon Age Origins sequel it is not what you would have expected and from that point of view, it might not seem as a good game... But as a game on its own, this is not a bad game. It is like a combination of how Mass Effect and Dragon Age worked, but with better graphics and dialogue. I'm pretty sure that someone who liked Mass Effect or similar games and has not played DA1, who jumps right into this game, would probably like it.

I'm disappointed that Dead Space 2 didn't make the cut.
I've played plenty of 1st person shooters in my life, but have never experienced such a deep, tense, gripping atmosphere in a game before.
It really lived up to it's "scariest game" reputation.

Dead Space is not a first-person shooter, it's third-person.

Other than that I (kind of) totally agree with you, was definitely one of the year's highlights.

You two are in the wrong place. THis is the ANTI awards.... Not the AWARDS!

While I agree with you, as a stand-alone game, Dragon Age 2 wasn't a bad game - but the reason it's even in the most disappointing category is because it's simply NOT a stand-alone game.

It's not a spin-off, or a different part of the series - it was sold and marketed as a sequel, in the same universe as the first; so the expectation was there that it would build on what was established in that game - and it simply failed pretty hard at that.

It was dumbed down, bogged with meaningless causality, filled with re-used, copy-and-paste environments...yeah, I'm sorry - I played the game, and tried to enjoy it for what it was, but the general vibe (at MyGaming as well as elsewhere) that the game was pretty damn disappointing.

The wonder of diverse opinions, though, eh? :)

I found the scares in dead space 2 cheap and predictable. Otherwise a good sequel.

I must agree with all the non winners in this anti awards. I was expecting lot more boobs in DNF and that the main reason for me why its disappointing.

Ok as a top 5 for "Most Disappointing game", maybe... I understood it as "Worst Game" category which would not fit.

I must say though, and I know a lot of people will disagree with me here, I played DA1... I think my 3rd or 4th playthrough recently (before starting DA2 again)... and it really started to get too long and boring... I didn't have the energy to continue to the Awakenings expansion pack so I started up DA2 instead and it was actually kind-of a nice change when I did.

Like I said however, when I first played DA2 when it was released, after expecting much of the same as DA1, I was actually pretty disgusted at the time with the game.
