Would you be so kind as to look over this list compiled by Kevin (with one addition by yours truly) to see if we've missed an important game that should be a GotY contender?

Can we try 2nding some games to shorten the list? Also multiple votes (3 votes for 1st 2nd 3rd) so the results are more reflective of your top 3.

Jan are you going to have and early access games list aswell seeing as Viscera Cleanup Detail is early access.
 
I dunno, as great as these games are, can GTA5 and TLoU:Remastered be considered as contenders for GOTY when they weren't technically released this year, just re-releases?
 
Wow... Turns out I've only played ONE of these new games this past year. Shocking.
I would have added Dreamfall Chapters, but the game isn't finished yet. Maybe next year if we have hopefully more of the chapters by then.

I'll consider it, but I don't want to complicate voting too much. Asking people to choose their first, second, and third place pick increases the amount of time it takes to complete the survey and may completely dissuade them from submitting.

The granularity we may gain from increased complexity needs to be weighed against the loss of accuracy/representativeness due to reduced votes.

Good point. I went according to the release dates on Wikipedia entries rather than what it said in Steam. No to Early Access list for now, so probably Expendabros rather than Broforce.

Interesting question, especially since there were some differences in the remastered editions. Would like to hear more opinions on this.

I played two of the games in that list. I find myself playing games that came out a couple of years ago.

I think they should be. Someone who would be playing one of those games for the first time this year might find it their best game of the year, and may not have had access to the older version. I know I would be annoyed if I enjoy GTA V on PC next year, but I'm not allowed to call it my game of the year because it came out on other systems earlier.

I hear you and you make a valid point. But in the same respect, could I then nominate a game for the year 2015 as I could only afford to upgrade my PC to play it then, despite it being a 2014 release?
Would GTA5 then be a contender for 2015 GOTY (just for re-releasing on PC)?

Not trying to spark controversy, just stating my opinion/thoughts. I believe a GOTY decision like this should be restricted to titles that were exclusively released in said year and to be new titles and/or IP's, not re-releases.

Sure you can the, but then you'll be the only one voting for it. :p
 
Well won't there be separate categories for GOTY? As in GOTY for PS4, GOTY for XBOX1,one for PC, etc? That should solve this problem

That will also enable you to vote for a platform exclusive like TLoU or Forza

I considered it, but I'm not sure there are enough GotY-contender platform exclusives this year.
 
Another game that might have to go on the list by our standards above is Ryse: Son of Rome, which launched on PC this year.

I do agree with you on that one, I just thought it would be an easy way to solve the GTA5 problem. Considering it released on all consoles in 2014, but will only release on PC in 2015. Don't think there are any other games at the moment that fall into the same category, so if it is worth it I'm not sure.
Was just a suggestion :)
