I think we had a misunderstanding then
I asked Cyro if he's interested, because it sounded as though czc would rather wait until the week before release (I got the impression he didn't want to pounce on pre-purchasing it NOW). Cyro said that he doesn't have any money but that he'd let me know if something pops up.
In other words, nothing formal was arranged and czc has dibs.

I've been playing my games in an 'enforced' steam offline mode.

I'd be cussing like a mofo by now. What's the issue? DSLAM dead? No dial-tone? I get nervous twitches if I don't have internet for more than 24-hours.
And certain publishers want us to believe that games requiring permanent internet connection would be "good" for us. BAH! Steam does it perfectly fine. They're just jealous Steam grabbed the market share with a great idea that they didn't have

In steam on the top menu, I think its the manage games menu. There is something about Manage Gifts. It should show you the status.

Funny I got the same problem when I received a gift but only picked it up about a week later. Just get her to send the info to the support team at Steam and they should be able to assist with renewing the link...
