Myself and Mandela

I just want to share this moment I got to spend with Mandela at his house in Qunu a while ago before the Soccer World Cup.
We were there to film an interview with him and I really couldn't think of anything to say to him except, "Nice to meet you." He replied "Oh really? Its better to meet YOU!" Classic Mandela.
My father was with me here too and Mandela remembered my father from freakin years back, "Oh you were the camera man from the museum opening in Mveso." My father couldn't believe it because all he said to him at the time was a brief greeting before filming a quick interview after cutting the ribbon.
It gets even more amazeballs. He said "you know, its my tea time. Would you like to stay for tea?" So we said yes of course. So there my father and I were in Mandelas lounge having tea. He didn't stay with us very long after that but he left us there to check out all his gifts from around the world. He kept all his favourite ones in his house in glass cabinets and the rest of the gifts fill up a museum in Umthatha.
Before he left us he said "have a safe trip home and you must sign my guestbook! I like to remember all my visitors."
In the guest book we saw every celebrity under the sun had signed in it.
That was the utmost highlight of my career so far.

awesome story bro! just a shame to think his vulture family's going to auction off all that stuff soon as he dies :(

Wow. I'm really jealous of you. It's always been something of a lifelong dream for me to meet Mandela. He truly is one of the most remarkable people in South Africa, if not the entire world.

Awesome story Brad

@Lyt - This is one of those moments where you wont be able to take it back, but dont worry i think we have all done some sort of drunken typing here.

In fact i think it actually calls for a Thread called Sin Bin where posts like this can be moved by James/Devs for future laffs :D

Super envious of you for meeting Mandela though, one of those moments you tell your kids one day.

Hey guys sorry for the stupid comment, the first thing I did when I got back home was go on the internets and type stupid stuffs on various forums. I do apologize. Can those of you who quoted my OP please remove it? Pretty please :) .

Notice the number has 11 digits...and its not even my number!

hahaha! awesome, thanks for this guys! Tried phoning Lyt but the number doesn't exist. Bummer:D

It was a great honour meeting Mandela, its just a terrible shame that the Mandela family is tarnishing their name with all the in fighting.
Cant believe they're going to auction all those gifts!! There are some things in there that are hundreds of years old. One of the stand out cabinets had a samurai sword from Japan. They should open his house in Qunu to the public as an extension to the museum. I think it would be a great tourist destination.
