Naked ADSL

I know this is a point of contention for Telkom, but how long must we wait for ADSL without having to rent the useless analogue line? I personally have no use for a landline, I just want the DSL line to put my cap onto.

If memory serves me right, the USA did naked DSL for a while, but went back to mandatory analogue lines because of loss of revenue.

I'm not so sure about that.

Cable and VOIP is a big thing in the States. DSL is very much a "if you can't get cable" thing and I'm not sure if they do mandatory analogue lines.

I've never come across an American with anything less than cable though, so... I dunno :p

It will never happen, with cANCer owning majority of the company and places all pension money into them for investment then having great returns when you retire. Why would you stop that concept of get rich quick.

They know you can’t do anything without Telkom cause the laws favour them.

It's the same as why would you stop e-tolling if most your pension is pushed into Sanral ?

Until ICASA gets some real teeth, I don't see this happening.

Right now they are investigating the so-called "access line deficit" Telkom would see if they unbundle their phone service from ADSL. Apparently Telkom makes a loss on its analogue line rentals and uses the bundling and voice revenue derived therefrom to offset it.

ICASA is looking for an "ALD recovery scheme" to cover Telkom's losses before stuff like naked ADSL and LLU can proceed.
