Near-death experiences and brain activity

There may be a scientific explanation for the vivid near-death experiences, such as seeing a shining light, that some people report after surviving a heart attack, US scientists said Monday.

Apparently, the brain keeps on working for up to 30 seconds after blood flow stops, according to a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

University of Michigan scientists did their research on nine lab rats that were anesthetized and then subjected...read more here: Near-death experiences and brain activity

Not sure how that explains things but let the scientists have their say.
Allow me to have a shot at explaining...

You know when you're oxygen deprived & you see stars? Those stars are - as far as I can tell - not real. And oxygen deprivation & death aren't all that far apart. Voila - near death experience...except many lights rather than one in the distance. Add a bit of tunnel vision (again oxygen deprivation/co2 poisoning) and the light at the end of the *tunnel* thing sounds awfully familiar too.

eh didn't read the article though - so the above is a thumbsuck.

Still doesnt explain the people who have the NDE for 2 hours after they die seeing heaven/hell, then they get brought back to life by a miracle.

Religious fanatics are going to have a field day with that article .

Science has proven a lot regarding life and death, which quite frankly I'm all for more info. I need to speak to them and ask them about my 2 experiences especially considering I didn't actually die, I'd just be intrigued as to how, why, what, etc... I wanna know what I saw and it's only something science will be able to tell me. :)

And out of body experiences?

Well the first happened when I was 10 and got hit by a car while riding my bike and the second time when we were stuffing around at hostel, we did that hyper ventilation thing and I passed out but apparently I had a violent fit and then just lay there. I don't remember any of that stuff except for the stuff I regarded as pretty much dreaming.

The first when I got hit by the car, I found myself walking through a sort of bullet train but couldn't find the people I was looking for to me I thought if I did that would have been my ticket off this planet.

The second time, I found myself drifting through and around my school but all my mates were playing touch rugby during hostel sports as we always did and I was about 12m in the air.

Both events felt like I had been gone for about an hour when in actual fact it was about 30sec - 1min. I've never forgotten what I experienced but it all felt like dreams, I'd love for someone like those scientists to explain what it was that I went through and how if I had proper head trauma both times. I mean surely my mind couldn't have been focusing on stupid dreams while under certain trauma.
