I don't really have an idea what's good and bad about them and there are so many different ones and different prices. I'm going to need one of them because I just moved to PTA, and my work is going to consist of mostly driving.

Can anyone point me in the right/best direction? Low prices are welcome :)

Do yourself a favor and get the Tom Tom ONE from Makro, it is currently on special for R999 down from R1399.

I got myself one the other day and it is awesome!

Is the Tom Tom really easier than the Garmin's?

I have a Garmin Nuvi, and I'm truly impressed!

Garmin and their map packs can go screw themselves. I bought one for our office and they're so full of crap with registering new maps to the unit. costs you an arm and a leg - meanwhile everyone online has unlocked their maps and distributed them freely.

The Garmin is easy to use once you're into it, but it can be iffy as well. IMHO Tom Tom's are far better value for money...

Our Nuvi cost around R5k and is not _THAT_ fancy.
