Need advice on whether to buy Starcraft 2

....i'm thinking about buying starcraft 2 but not sure cuz black ops is coming out really soon and might want to buy that (after waiting to see what happens with the whole server/mweb thing of course). I've read some threads in the forums and watched about twenty replays on youtube ( idrA, Huk, NoNY, ret, sen, WhiteRa, TheLittleOne) so i have some idea about the game.

Anyway...just wanted to know some info about starcraft 2:

- what's the difference between buying the european or american version (i.e. i know you play on different servers but are EU servers harder/better or american ones better? or what? whats the preference?)

- are the latencies for both EU and American good or not? (@ 384 kbps)

- about how many megs of cap does it take to play an average game? (7-15mins)

- if anyone could share any other info about the servers that they play on and experiences and stuff...

I would definitely suggest you buy sc2 :)

We have a huge thriving community on the EU servers. You are looking at a couple of hundred kilobytes per game, really small and pings are good to the EU servers.

LoL is this a trick question. Yes!! buy the best RTS I have played since C&C 3, and SC2 is a million times beter than C&C 3.
 
Buy it, it will be money well spent. Single player campaign is a lot of fun, but obviously the online play is really where SC2 is great.
 
Really. these guys are all correct. I never used to play games like this. The closest thing i have played to this is DOTA and that is far from SC2. I play alot now. I have left MW2 to gather dust for a while. Got MoH aswell and that too now is gather dust. Cant stand the campers on that game. What i would do is get SC2 till Black Ops comes out. I will buy Black Ops on the 9th and then give Black Ops and SC2 turns. haha. Get SC2.
 
My friend plays on a 384 kps connection, he seldom lags, and when he does it usually means that mweb or his adsl is having problems

Technically EU would be better for for less lag, The South African community on EU is also larger

Average game like fluke said is actually quite small, it depends on what you play, 1v1's are very cap friendly, while team games and custom games tend to take more cap, but it's usually not as much of a cap eater as other games.

I would recommend you get this game, even if you don't play a lot of multiplayer, the singleplayer is really solid (And takes little to no cap while you play) , and the custom type games are also a lot of fun if competitive gaming isn't what you want.`
 
Lag was pretty bad the other day when it was raining but maybe that has more to do with our line. Latencies on EU will be much lower. I was also really surprised at how little bandwidth sc2 uses. Echoing above comments, single player is fun and nice to try and get those achievements. Multi just keeps me coming back and trying to play better. So many different matchups 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, FFA, co-op vs ai and custom games like income wars which is a lot of fun..
 
My advice is buy what you want. If you like RTS games, then by all means. Same for COD, if you like FPS go for it.

What games do you play more/enjoy more? Do you like RTS games or would you rather spend your time playing shooters like Bad Company etc?

It also depends on your personality. If you're one of those guys that do not give up easily and is not put down by getting owned very, very hard; keep practising to get better and never give up, then you will have a good time with SC II. Otherwise, don't even think about wasting your money now. Rather get it when it hits the bargain bin, which won't be anytime soon I guess..

Guys, not everyone is having a jol in SC II (read: me) :D

It's up to you to decide which is your preferable game type.
 
Well I payed R550 and I'm not even playing the MP anymore. The singleplayer is keeping me plenty busy. So yes, buy it!

This is about the most fair comment I've seen regarding SC2 MP. Yes...the learning curve is VERY VERY steep. I've played a 100+ games and I'm in the silver league and I went on an 8 game losing streak in the last 48hours! It can be annoying...

But so can any MP game. I've played COD on our insanely clan dominated SA servers and have been utterly ravaged for hours on end. And then should you perform well with a "noob weapon"...all hell will break lose. your mother's promiscuity will surely be brought into question.

I like the SC2 community on line. No1 is really a dick...you dont get called names or harassed. And it is simply just a question of playing a couple of games and watching a few replays to understand how to win and have fun.

BUT THE SINGLE PLAYER IS INSANE> so even if you don't wana play MP I can recommend the game purely for it's campaign. the story line is epic. the gameplay and missions varied.

Oh and another thing...there are lots of kewl MP maps/mods coming out...like Blizzard Dota and Tower Defense and Footsoldiers etc that are also really fun to play. So buy it! :-D
 
this is one of those games that'll keep you entertained for years.

the community is amazing and the game is awesome. get involved dude :)

and DEFINITELY get the EU version - that's where the south africans are! you can get involved with the community and play in the tourneys and with friends etc.
 
Started playing this a month ago, and haven't touched much anything else. Thing is, I've always seen myself as much more of an FPS player, and since this, my COD4/MW2/BC2 has been gathering dust.
 
Tis a good game but i don't have anyone to practice against that i know.


you will pretty much get your ass kicked for the first month or so but after a while you will get the hang of it. (my first victory was when i learned the MM rush)
