Need advice - PC Components

Good Day,

Let me state that I am not a newbie when it comes to PC components and have build most of my gaming PC's over the years. Previously I would have the $$$ to buy all the high end stuff without really a worry about the price.

However, becoming a "dad" suddenly all my monies for my toys are out of the window. I need some advice on Montherboard, Processor and memory for my new PC. I have a decend video card (ATI HD5870) and I have a very good 1000w powersupply. I need to replace my case, but that is not really a big issue at this point.

I have about R6k for the above components. What can you suggest? Remember I prolly need to keep the equipment for 18 months before I can think of an upgrade again.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Alastorr ,
If you had to buy right now , Fabio's options are looking great.
I wish i could by that cpu & mobo ..

Not bad...
Stay away from Sandy bridge, and maybe consider waiting for Bulldozer to arrive.
If you absolutely have to upgrade now, go for the above mentioned system, just skip on the ram, no need to spend that amount on ram if you don't plan on overclocking it. Just get yourself some Kingston DDR3 1333 or 1600, you'll save quite a bit just by doing that.

I'd go for this mobo if I were you:

When buying my Phenom II 966 BE I had to decide between this one and that ROG motherboard. And I didn't want to buy a shit board. Did some snooping around and I had to go with this one because they are both practically the same, but the MSI board costs R1000 less. I have one and I have loved it so far.

The MSI is a very nice board, but it's still running the old chipset, that's why it's a R1000 cheaper! So not exactly the same after all... :)

Yes, it's still the old chipset, but it was explained to me that it hold no real advantages at this stage. The board had everything I need. For R1000 less just because it's the old chipset. A fat bargain I say.

If you look at the stats from the two boards, there's really not much difference. Only big difference is the R1000.

And the fact that it's got the old chipset! If you want to upgrade why do you want to get old gen components? Doesn't an upgrade mean you get the best components you can afford at that time!

Besides Alastorr said he's got a R6k budget so IMHO I would get the latest components rather than getting old has been components!

But it seems like Alastorr went into a bush and hide... He's nowhere so all this fuss is useless! At the end of the day it's Alastorr's decision. :)

Umm..exactly dude..That's why I'm putting it out there..

U can get the ati 6950 and flash it with the 6970 firmware to onlock the extra shaders for cheaper..

Plus if u can wait till fall for the high end sandy bridge chips. The i7. Will go to 6 cores 12 threads for the same price as now
