Need help with Plex

So I use Plex as a media server on my PC so I can easily play media via my Xbox using the Xbox app.

Recently though, I can't get the Plex app to connect to my server. I can access the media server using the Xbox Media Player app, it shows the media server and I can access my content, but it won't play all of it due to some files not supported, which is not an issue when you use the Plex app because it converts it.

Now normally I have a modem and a router, but due to lightning I only have a modem at the moment. I used to have to forward ports on both my modem and router in order for remote access to work (I couldn't get the Xbox Plex app to connect to my server in the past if Plex was not remotely accessible). <- I really don't understand why, since the xbox is not outside of my network, but there it is.

Now I cannot get my Plex to be accessible outside my network, no matter what I do. With just my modem it should be simpler to get it working than when I had both a modem and router (where I kept on having a double NAT situation, unable to resolve it), but for the love of everything I just cannot get it right.

I'm open to any suggestions, or to someone Teamviewer-ing my PC to help me with it, because I don't know what to do anymore. Please halp!

I had a similair issue a while ago, turned out to be my antivirus. Switched over to another one, working fine now.
What AV are you on?

I don't have one. I only use Windows Firewall and Defender

Bitdefender? That's the one that messed it up for me.
I am a huge Avast fan, moved from Avast when the new AMD drivers had issue and someone told me it clashes with Avast. Bitdefender messed up plex and now I'm trying Avira. No problems so far with Plex. Seems Avast wasn't at fault with the graphics, might move back to Avast.

EDIT: just google "bitdefender Plex issue" you'll get a lot of hits.

No, Windows Defender. I don't have any 3rd party AV, Firewall, etc.

Plex can act as a generic dlna server as well. I suspect your XBox Media Player is connecting to this dlna service. The Plex app uses the native plex server and different ports.

Install the Plex app on your phone to see if you can connect to your PC with that. Your windows firewall may be blocking connections to the Plex server ports.

The most important port to make sure your firewall allows is the main TCP port the Plex Media Server uses for communication:

TCP: 32400 (for access to the Plex Media Server) [required]

The following ports are also used for different services:

UDP: 1900 (for access to the Plex DLNA Server)
TCP: 3005 (for controlling Plex Home Theater via Plex Companion)
UDP: 5353 (for older Bonjour/Avahi network discovery)
TCP: 8324 (for controlling Plex for Roku via Plex Companion)
UDP: 32410, 32412, 32413, 32414 (for current GDM network discovery)
TCP: 32469 (for access to the Plex DLNA Server)

Thanks Dark, I'll try that when I get home. I'm pretty sure my Windows Firewall does allow it, but I haven't double checked.

Turned off my firewall and it worked, I could access Plex.

However, it is allowing all incoming connections (Inbound Rules) for Plex.

I had to manually add 32400 to my inbound rules for it to work, even though all ports are already allowed. Also, I didn't have to do this previously, so why the hell now? FFFUUUUU

Either way, thanks a lot Dark. Appreciate the help! :)
