Netflix officially in SA!

Ya my lighty watches loads of shows. He has his own profile, which is set to little kids mode. Also, the first month is free, so you can always try it out and cancel if it's not working for you.

Kids shows also vary per region so I do switch region with UnoTelly for him too.

Shot... got the kids watching now. Set it up on the Xbone. Does anyone know if the app is available on the PS3 and PS4 as yet?

I have discovered the following;

  • Good idea: choosing a movie to watch.
  • Bad idea: getting the girlfriend to choose.

Seriously took her half an hour to choose something.

Ya it can take all night to find something. Good idea to put things in your list when you spot them and just choose from your list when you want to watch something. Also check other people's playlists on https://www.filmefy.com/

Should be, I already had it installed on the ps3 and ps4, but it did pop up as new on the ps4 the day after Netflix went live so I deleted it and reinstalled it from my proper account. It was installed from a second Us account before.

The biggest problem we will all face with Netflix...

I'm unimpressed, loads of old shit and nothing I enjoy watching. Showmax is just as bad. I want the latest stuff, not 2-3 seasons ago because Monochoice. I want it now.

Hulu might be a better fit for you then...

I personally enjoy Netflix's binge-watching culture as we never really watched any series. So now we play catch-up at our own pace. :)

Well I got it purely for the kid, there's actually some nice educational shows on it. That and he stays glued to them. I don't like kids shows with much violence and so forth.

Netflix US has everything I want, but the VPN overhead makes it annoying.

Dude, just sign up for Unotelly. You then enter a primary and secondary DNS (that Unotelly will give you) on your router (or device you're watching from) and you're set. It really is very, very, very easy. I even got my wife to configure one of the devices!

We have Netflix and Hulu, between the two of them, there's much more choice. Hulu has more current stuff, and Netflix has more historic stuff. If you want to start a series from season 1, Netflix is good, Hulu has more of the latest episodes, but they might not have all the seasons, or they might have only the 6 most recent episodes. Hulu does have adverts though, which is a pain.

Also using Unotelly, we can watch all of Netflix, not just the handful of stuff that they've made available here.

+1 for Unotelly, no extra network overhead (they have servers in Jhb and CT), just $5 or so per month. Their mobile app also makes updating your IP address and switching regions super easy, and their filmefy site lets you search across all the Netflix regions.

We used Hulu for about a year, but I cancelled my sub due to us not really watching it all that much. We used it for watching Modern Family and The Middle - which airs only 3 months a year. We couldn't care less for the rest of the stuff on Hulu.

Netflix + Unotelly Dynamo is the best option for us - opens up ALL the content that Netflix has available across all regions. I can't stress enough how much better Unotelly makes a Netflix subscription.

My wife likes a lot of the shows on Hulu, particularly the reality shows that I find super boring, but she can watch them while I get some gaming in, so it's all good.

I think even for the people in USA with the biggest selection on Netflix, Unotelly's Dynamo would still be worth using because even though they have by far the largest catalog, it's not even half of what Netflix has worldwide.

EDIT: The most useful thing about Netflix being here is that the app is available on SA app stores. Other than that, nothing has changed for me.

Netflix, Unotelly and gaming on a 2Mbps line? Advisable?

You probably won't get great quality on a 2Mbps line, Netflix adjusts the quality of the stream to the line speed, so you might get a 480p or lower stream, but it will probably work ok if your line is stable. You can always do the free month to see how it works, but you should really have at least a 4Mbps line if you want anything near HD. I could usually get 720p on 4Mbps.

Just give it a minute or two to buffer when you start playing if you have slow internet, it'll start out with a low quality stream, and get better as it buffers (or whatever it does behind the scenes)

I've also been using both Hulu and Netflix for a while now. Netflix mostly for foreign films with the occasional series or western movie here and there and Hulu for shows like Masterchef. The only problem I have with Hulu is the ads, so many ads and for some reason my ad block plus doesn't want to block them amymore (used to be fine).

You now can pay Hulu extra and get rid of the ads
