New Computer Monitor - Help

I'm looking to buy a new monitor, preferably 23" with a glossy screen.

The one I have found and like is the Samsung A23A700D, however its about R4000.
I am looking more in the range of R3000.

Does anyone know of any good screens? (doesnt have to be Samsung), but please note the screen must be glossy.

Any help appreciated

That is expensive.

Look at major retailers like Inc Connection, Game etc. They have massive buying power and can sell stuff cheaper as a result. Samsung's LED monitors are super black. Very nice. If you are serious about gaming, just get a 2ms, not a 5ms. That's it.

DO NOT I repeat DO NOT buy from Retailers like them unless they are on special, they over charge so badly because they have buying power. Rather buy it online.

Saved you R400 plus the Samsung has HDMI, where the Dell does not. Don't know why you would want glossy they reflect light like a mirror.

And I suppose they don't have to pay massive rent , staff, transport etc.

Agreed. Their regular prices are ridiculous. But I got my Acer 24 in. on special cheaper at I.C than any of my dealers. Same for external hard drives. WD 1TB USB 3 for R799 at I.C. Pinnacle and Rectron were both R150 more at the time, plus I have to drive to Midrand.

+1 for avoiding a glossy screen too. I spend most of my day watching what is happening behind me.

Double posting is against forum rules. I'm sure no-one minds if you do it occasionally, but you've done it in at least 3 different threads already in a very short time.

I am interested as to why you mention Pinnacle and Rectron, seeing as they are not conventional retailers, but rather wholesalers which require you to be a reseller in order to buy from them?

As for OP, my five cents would be asking why the glossy screen is a factor in your decision?

The fact that a retailer can be R150 cheaper than a wholesaler is testament to their buying power. Decide what hardware you want, Keep your eyes peeled for a bargain, and you are almost assured to get one at a big retailer.

As for the double-post... sorry. My tablet won't let me edit.

I doubt buying power has anything to do with the specials from Incredible Connection. Only when they have specials are they worth it. The rest of the time they make up for any loss with the mark-up on the rest of their prices.

In all honestly I have seen mice going for twice the price of say Matrix, and speaker systems going for thrice the price. And these are Microsoft and Logitech brands, not no name brands.

Samsung are good monitors. Just make sure what warranty the special is given.

They like to only give 1 year warranty, and then customers cry when it packs up after the year.

You forget that Walmart now owns all the big retail stores. Soon all the PC shops will close down and be out of business.

Walmart basically imports the stuff and sells to the public, no disty to go through, no retailer to go through from an end users point of view.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Reason I want a glossy screen is because the colours are more vivid. Its for gaming in my room so reflection wont be too much of a problem.

Thanks for the reccomendations Glordit.

If anyone comes across any other glossy screen deals please let me know. Thanks again

I'd also say check out Incredible Connection. I saw the Samsung S27A950D on special for R5500 recently - I'd only seen that monitor for R6k and more before.

Depends on what you need more vivid colours for. Have you looked at IPS screens.

As an example check out IPS234V-PN. I've seen them at Matrix Warehouse and at Esquire for approx. R1 900.

My opinion: Good brand monitors are Samsung, Acer, Viewsonic and HP. Don't get any monitor with lower resolution than 1920x1080.
