New consoles making AMD big money

Although my own preference is AMD for CPU and nVidia for GPU, I buy whatever gives me the best performance for my money. But, I might pay more for the same performance nvidia card as I've owned only nvidia cards and are so used to them by now.

But I'm happy for AMD, hope they get an amazing desktop CPU soon. Competition is great for the end users pocket.

I really think Sony / Microsoft should have gone more of the Steam Machine Route, keep their console OS etc, however make the parts easily upgradeable, let us upgrade the CPU / Graphics cards etc over time, it would greatly increase the lifespan of the console.

Downside is all games would still have to be made to run on the base machine, not everyone can upgrade their console.

They need to make something like the chip used in the 780... Bigger in size, much better in power and it will basically never peak above 82 degrees on load.

I cant wait till i upgrade my *new* pc so i can get an nvidia card that will smash my current amd 7970

I already feel like they have a good CPU in Vishera as it beats out the Core i7 in some heavily threaded benchmarks, and thanks to all next gen consoles having an APU in them that has poor single threading performance it has forced developers to better optimise their code to take advantage of AMD's strengths. Something which I'm sure will carry over to the desktop side and spell good things for AMD. :)

Vishera is weak compared to its competition. The only reason it competes is because Intel is holding back there power like Nvidia has been doing.

Why would they want to hold back better chips?

Would it not make sense for them to just steamroll AMD's competition? :D

What would the point be in upgrading the parts then if not to experience higher graphics settings etc? The benefit of a console is to not have to upgrade for 7-8 years. You pay one price and you are guaranteed that it will run any game released for it in its lifespan. If they ever begin to need upgrades I think it will turn a lot of people off, because like me, a lot of people prefer consoles for the sheer reason that they never need to upgrade until the next console is out.
