New Doom is called Doom, just Doom

The trend of reboot title naming continues. If it can be called a trend yet. :p
 
I'm super-stoked for this. I hope they can find a compromise between sticking to the true-and-tested and innovation. Here's hoping it will revive the franchise like Tomb Raider and Wolfenstein: The New Order did and not go the DN: Forever route (sorry, but somebody had to say it).

Regarding the name:
There is a part of me suffering from OCD that has trouble handling the modern naming trends. Just "Doom". Erm... guys... there was already a game named "Doom". This is "Doom 4", finish en klaar.

A few other examples:
Tomb Raider - Same issue as Doom.
The New IPad - Speaks for itself.
Everything Microsoft names - Why has the OS changed to numbers but most of their other software is sill referred to by year? And Windows 7 should have been called Windows 8. Which one did they ignore, Millennium or Vista?
Android versions - Why can't the sweet name only clock when the main version number clocks? We have now had three confectioneries stuck in version 4

Seems appropriate, given the naming of certain games as of late...:

Wolfenstein
Tomb Raider
Need for Speed: Most Wanted

To name but a few...

Devs do not desire to add sequential numbering to their games, so they instead just retire it to its franchise name, with the additional of the year in which it was published.

Its just a name.

"If you get shot by one of these guns – or any weapon for that matter – your health won’t regenerate." Pretty happy about this though.

That used to be the norm in FPS - dunno what changed it.
Nowadays, everyone is wolverine in FPS games :p

Yeah, I know. Just one of my (many) pet peeves.

I'm also happy about the no-regenerating-health bit. I've seen the "duck-and-heal" type games in the past go one of two ways: The game turns out too easy and the devs just leave it that way or the game turns out too easy and the devs have to drag in some other (usually repetitive) "innovation" to try and up the challenge level.
Some of the most nerve-wrecking parts of the older fps games were hunting for med packs while your health was sitting at about 10%.
