A new Duke Nukem action roleplaying game is being teased by Interceptor Entertainment, with canny fans deciphering text to reveal Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction for PC and PlayStation.

Interceptor Entertainment originally asked for 10,000 Facebook likes to translate a chunk of text for fans, but the message was cracked ahead of time: "The king makes his next generation debut in Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction. A top-down action role-playing game for PC and PlayStation."

A new teaser site, AllOutOfGum.com, currently shows a countdown clock to February 25. The site is accompanied by artwork for Kick-Ass Gum; a reference to one of Duke Nukem 3D's most popular lines.

The text also suggests that the upcoming game won't be a first-person shooter. "Duke Nukem kicks ass across planets in an Unreal Engine-powered galactic adventure to save the President from an apocalyptic alien threat," continues the decrypted text. "All-new enemies, a never before seen arsenal of devastating weaponry, and series-first mechanics; including experience points and tech trees, will let Duke rip 'em a new one in a way he never has before."

Interceptor Entertainment previously ported Duke Nukem's two side-scrolling games to iOS, and was reported last year to be working with Duke Nukem creator Scott Miller.

The studio had once hoped to remake the original Duke Nukem 3D, although this project was scrapped.

Sounds like it'll most likely be a digital release. Guess it might be an experiment to see if the name can still sell, which could pave the way for future games that don't take decades to release :p

honestly, after the humongous c***up of the previous DN i'm amazed then had the nuts to produce another one :wtf:

They are probably trying to get some funds by selling another instalment of the game, it won't get far and very much doubt the ratings will be anywhere near good

To be honest I thought Sergeant Rex Power Colt (F*ck yeah!) from Blood Dragon was more of a Duke than Duke was in the last Duke game (although I actually finished it anyway...sure it wasn't fantastic but at the same time I've tried to play through far worse). Not sure what to think of this experiment though - I really do believe some things should just be left to die.

ya daaaaamn skippy! Blood Dragon was bloody brilliant. perfectly pitched parody that really hit the retro spot that DN was aiming for.

I would skip this iteration of Duke if that is what they plan on doing i was horrified by the last so called "game" we got and they actually just messed up good MP memories for me of that game we used to play duke 3d in school breaks in the pc class. Oh those were the days.

They already chased half if not more of the duke fan base into hiding what do they think will happen with this?

A current era reboot maybe, but a 90's take with a character of that likeness no. We're slowly and sadly moving away from the Big, strong, one-liner heroes.

Yeah that's what I meant. Kinda like what was done to Tomb Raider (though that franchise still had life when it was rebooted). Bring the character and gameplay into the current era of gaming. Maybe even go third person.

I think changing a game that radically though is kinda killing it anyway though (at least in spirit). I mean I do understand that things have to change but to radically change something that used to be an FPS to something else - why don't they rather then just create a new franchise (sure, riding on a name helps however I believe they've put it so far into the mud now that there isn't much of the name to ride on anymore - just look at the response to Alien Isolation thanks to Aliens: Colonial Marines...I actually am quite excited for it but a lot of people are instantly put into a defensive stance because of the horribly rated Colonial Marines).

Yeah I definitely understand that. We'll have to see how this new rumoured title pans out. It could be very similar to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light which was also a top-down (ok isometric) game released to breathe new life into the TR franchise before unveiling the reboot.

Aye - not knocking it but just more afraid that they 'kill it even more dead' lol. I'd love for them to reboot it good and proper with a really sweet focus on FPS with some sort of original twist (i.e. to not use the really crude humour they tried to pass off - they can keep the nudity though :p).

With the right developer, a reboot could be very successful.

Gearbox really dropped the ball so hard on DNF, they should have scrapped it and started over instead of working with the 5 year old mess they had gotten in the beginning.

I recall a few years ago, some one was remaking the original Duke Nukem 3D in the U3 engine but that has fallen away with time.
