Hi guys, just bought a brand new samsung syncmaster p2250 and am psyched for the full hd resolution, so i get home and plug it in, but when i change it to 1920x1080 and apply the setting.. the screen flickers like crazy.. but its fine on a lower resolution. i have installed both analog and digital drivers from the CD and still nothing.. any ideas??

Does it get installed properly as a Syncmaster P2250? Have you slapped on the latest display drivers? Are there any Device Manager conflicts? Have you tried the monitor on another machine?

yep it gets installed proper, got the latest drivers from samsung site, tried the monitor on another machine and no hardware conflicts..

esh I'd hate to have to find time to return this monitor :(

So the monitor runs fine at that resolution on the other machine?

What video card are you running? What driver version?

nope it flickers at 1920x1080 on both machines.. but is fine for all other resolutions.

im running a geforce 9800gt, driver version 8.16.11.9107 which should be latest.. downloaded like 2 weeks ago from nvidia site

maybe a borked DVI cable? You tried different cables at all?

woops forgot to mention that, used dvi on one pc and vga on the other!

Edit: could the refresh rate play a role? i know it affects the flickering.. what is the typical refresh rate i should be using? because when i switch to 1920x1080 resolution the refresh rate changes to 30Hz, with no option to adjust that?

oh nevermind i had to make a custom resolution on the NVIDIA control panel to set it to 50Hz or 60Hz.. which clears it up nicely. thanks though guys :)

Just btw.. does refresh rate have any physical impact on the monitor??

Set it to 60 Hz, it's weird that it wasn't at that setting already. Below that can cause headaches and nausea and make you feel bad.

okay so i fixed the problem for windows by adding a custom resolution with the nvidia control panel thing, so its fine. now when i open cod4 and set it at the new resolution (1920x1080 @60hz), it still flickers =/ im so lost :P hardware kills me

my nvidia control panel still says my native resolution is 1280x1024.. why is that?

edit: i tried it on different games, and on games that support that resolution.. it seems as though they don't register that i set my monitor to refresh at 60Hz.. like sims3 still only gives me the option of 30Hz..

If I were you I'd take it back anon815. The fact that it had the same problem on two machines let me think it's a hardware fault. Rather take it in now than have to worry about it later.
