New Mortal Kombat movie coming from MK Legacy director

Did you like Kevin Tancharoen's Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series? New Line Cinema evidently did, as it's hired Tancharoen to direct a new film based on the bloody franchise. So, to sum up, that one self-produced "Rebirth" short got Tancharoen a job first as a web series director, and now on a feature film. The movie will reportedly feature a more "realistic" version of the Mortal Kombat characters, like the dead ninja who controls fire and the monk with the razor-sharp hat.

"The new game and the online shorts have prompted us to consider a reboot of a brand we hadn't been actively thinking about," New Line president Toby Emmerich told the LA Times. So, the rebooted game series gave him the idea to reboot the film series.

The fate of this new film isn't entirely assured, however. The film rights to the series are still in question, following ongoing lawsuits between Warner and Lawrence Kasanoff, a producer on the previous MK movies. Not even Shao Kahn himself can defeat the lawyers of Earthrealm.

Don't know hey, the last two MK movies were so bad they are forever engrained on my brain as cheesy as hell. Even the theme song is still stuck in my head.

I kinda liked the first movie (or the fight scenes at least)... and the theme song (but without the talking).
There is another theme song that is also quite cool as far as I remember... think it was from Mortal Kombat Conquest TV series.

I loved the first movie.

I don't know, I remember liking the Mortal Kombat movies, maybe because I was young.

The first one was cheesy but it was a good cheesy the second one the costumes looked bad.

If i recall the web series were born from a little short film kevin made to help his cause to make the movie, when they said no he made the web series, and it seemed to have worked in his favour as the Studioa want to make a movie... His short film was good, and the bits i watch from the web series i liked... So maybe this guy can reboot the movies and make it as good as it ought to be... He cant do worse the than the MK2 movie that one was actually really bad... However the score to the movies were good.

If i recall a couple of rave tracks came from there.... I was younger don't judge.

I did not like the 2nd one. 1st one was the best and MK Conquest was kinda cool, although I didn't like how the series ended. It was quite a long time ago but as far as I can remember, I liked the Raiden from Conquest the best.

Also liked the Liu Kang and Kitana from the two movies... but they're unfortunately way too old now to reprise their roles :p

I really liked the first movie back in the day, and as Tsar said, it's a good kind of cheesy :) Second one was horrible though. I wouldn't mind seeing a new MK film. As long as they use unknown actors and don't have the entire cast speak american.
