New Mortal Kombat movie in the making?

I love it. Been following this for a while on and off, and I think its a good approach, specially cause its a bit more violent now, the way an MK movie is supposed to be :)

Pew pew pew

just under eight minutes of something related to mortal kombat has been posted on youtube. The video features jax -- sans cybernetic arms -- grilling a mysterious perp in a police station. Through some (laborious) exposition, he describes new humanized (and gross) versions of reptile and baraka, along with johnny cage and a young, beardless shang tsung.

At first glance, one might assume it's footage from the new, possibly derailed mortal kombat movie. Another possibility, given the video's proximity to e3 and its introductory nature, is that this is a tease for the next mortal kombat game. Furthermore, the name of the newly created youtube account is mortalkombatrebirth, which sounds like a perfectly suitable title for a new entry in the series. A third and altogether frightening possibility: This is all a prelude to a new movie / game tie-in.

We know warner bros. Is interested in the franchise, so it's safe to assume something is on the horizon. We've contacted wbie for more info. One way or another, it seems likely we'll hear more by next week.

Update: Latino review claims that it's a test video directed by kevin tancharoen, and offers a near-complete list of the featured cast.

Update 2: Actress jeri ryan, seen in the short playing sonya blade, offered further comment about the project on twitter. "it's not a game trailer," ryan said. "actually was made for the director to sell wb on his vision for a reimagined mk film." she said she had "no idea yet what wb's reaction to it was."

I can't wait. I know mortal Kombat movies were kinda kak but I loved them:D

More from Wiki:

First teased on a viral marketing blitz June 8th 2010. Mortal Kombat (rebirth) is a "Visual Re-boot" of a original video game franchise.
The teaser tailer, Directed by Kevin Tancharoen and fight choreograph by Larnell Stovall. Featured Michael Jai White as Jax, Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, Matt Mullins as Johnny Cage, Lateef Crowder as Baraka and Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion. It also featured Sub Zero, Reptile and Shang Tsung. Sources speculate that the trailer could indicate a reboot movie or a tie in live-action short film series to replace CGI cut scenes for the next Mortal Kombat game.

Boon and Tobias said that they were working on a new Mortal Kombat game more than a year ago when they were interviewed for Mortal Kombat vs. DC. They were asked about the toned-down violence of the MK vs. DC game when they commented that veteran fans will be pleased to hear that there will be MUCH more gore and violence "like the days of old" when the new MK game is released.

I'm a Mortal Kombat nutcase.

The first Motal Kombat was decent the second need work. The soundtracks to both were awesome. Regarding this video, if it has to be the movie it would be very interesting to see it was gripping but it was in no way a trailer way to long. If it the footage for the new game i am sorry wont be buying it as i lost interest in the Mortal Kombat game franchise long ago. But still an awesome video clip.

I've never lost interest in the franchise. Saying that would be like saying "I lost interest in breathing". MK was the game that single-handedly pulled me into gaming. I'll never forget the first time I saw Mortal Kombat 1 being played at a corner cafe. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the "lifelike" graphics and the sheer brutality of the game. The sounds, the blood and then the best....the Fatalities! OMW....Sub Zero's fatality is still the very best fatality ever. Wow....good times.

I've played every single Mortal Kombat game since then. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was very good and in my opinion, the last "true" Mortal Kombat game. The 3D "virtua fighter" approach ruined a few things and the franchise never really recovered from it.

Now imagine if Boon and Tobias saw the light and approached the new MK like CapCom remade Street Fighter into Street Fighter 4. Proper 2D fighting like the old days, but with insane graphics and over-the-top moves. That game would be a giant-killer of note and makes me WISH Boon and Tobias would read this and get some sense.

Sadly though, I think they're sticking with the whole 3D thing, which is a major bummer.

+1000000000

I remember that fateful day at our local shop when they booted up the mortal kombat cabinet. Spent billions of "20's" on it :D. MK2 was good, MK3 was fantastic, but MK Trilogy and UMK3 were by far the best, and I agree it was the last TRUE MK, I never liked ANY MK after that.
