New Pc Build!

Hi guys,

So i've always lurked around this forum and have noticed alot of people getting good advice about building pc's and ofcourse I've seen and heard good things about The Joker too ;)

Basically my laptop gave up the ghost, kicked the bucket, died! and I've been thinking of putting together a gaming pc for home then buying a tablet for when i'm on the go.

What I want from this pc is to be able to play most(not all) current games on medium to high settings and if possible be good to play future games on low settings for a couple years to come.

at the moment the only component I have is a mouse and speakers so I'll need everything else including an O.S :wtf:

I looked at a site called comogam and there is a guide there with a 'workhorse' build and I want to base my build on that set-up although most of the components on that build were sold-out when I checked.
here is a link to the guide if you wanna check it out: http://www.comogam.net/pc-builders-guide/

Here is the workhorse build I wanna base mine on:
Processor: Intel Core i5 3450S
Mobo: MSI H77MA-G43
GPU: MSI GTX 650Ti
Memory: 8GB Team Xtreem RAM
HDD: WD Scorpio Blue 640GB
Power: Corsair CX600 V2
Case: Cooler Master K380
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS90 24x DVD-RW
Monitor: LG E2051C-BN

According to the guide the total should be R7138 and that is great for my budget.
A couple of notes:
my budget is R7000-R8000 (is this reasonable for what i'm asking for?)
I don't want an HDD smaller than 500gb and 1TB would be perfect.
I don't want to over-clock.
I'd like the monitor to be LED possibly HD too.
I'm gonna need wi-fi
and lastly as i'm sure you've guessed i'm not very computer savvy so if possible I would like to be able to order from one website so that i can ask em to put it together for me but if i can get a big saving then i'll be happy to learn how to put together a pc myself :P

Thanks and look forward to getting this build on track!

That GTX 650 will cripple you a bit in games unless you choose to keep it at High settings and below 1080p. Up to 1680x1050 it will be fine but pushing 1920x1200/1080 will cause the frame rate to drop in certain games below the 40fps mark into the 30's and 20's in some cases.

I would rather get a HD 7850.

Also I doubt you'll get that all for R 7000 including a LED, With a LED you'll be looking to push just past the R8000+ mark but then you'll have to take the GTX 650 to keep within the budget. Which is still a good deal, gaming at 1600x900 the GTX 650 will shine.

I would second the idea of going for a 7850, Powercolour have just re entered the market and are selling at a very competitive price point. Check on Wootware's website, I think you should be able to get a 7850 at a very decent price point.

Should you need help putting the pc together there are plenty of people around that would be willing to help do that by giving you guides otherwise there is always videos on youtube etc.
What are you doing about mouse, keyboard, speakers and headset?

Did you see their 7870 and 7950? Unbelievable pricing

I did, and if it wasn't for the amount of debt I am in I would have snapped up the 7870 in a heartbeat, need a new psu as well though :(

If it weren't for similar circumstances, I would've gotten the 7950 without hesitation

@Simon I've got speakers (5.1's) a mouse and a shitty headset to start so just need the keyboard.

@Glordit I might be able to push a budget a bit further especially if it means a bit more longevity down the line

Just checked wootware and the powercolor 7850 is sold out :(

Maybe they will get more stock in soon at that sort of price, don't be in a rush and end up with something that is inferior, it only ends up being a waste of money if you do rush

Have a look at using Gigabyte instead of MSI. MSI has improved a lot but Gigabyte still has the best warranty imo.

The board that is there comes in at a good price considering what it supports. I highly recommend that MSI board.

There is really no difference it quality between gigabyte and MSI, it's 2/3 years minimum for most PC hardware. So go with what ever is cheapest and offers the most features at it's price.

The MSI has, DDR3-1600 support USB3, SATA III and Crossfire coming in at under R1000 it's a very good price.

ok so I've basically given up on staying within my budget since it really does seem to be impossible here is my revised build without a monitor:

processor Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz - R 2,399
mobo Gigabyte B75M-D3H LGA1155 - R 901
gpu Gigabyte GV-R785OC-2GD AMD Radeon HD7850 2GB - R 2,354
memory Team TED38G1600HC1101 DDR3 8GB (1x8GB) - R 449
HDD Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB - R 799
Power Corsair CP-9020060 CX600M 600W - R 1,052
Case Coolermaster RC-344-SKN2 Elite - R 400
Optical LG GH24NS90 Internal SATA 24x- R 200
Monitor n/a
R 8,554.00

What you guys think?
I also saw an msi mobo for R700 what would be the difference between MSI B75MA-P45 1155 Socket and the one I've got in my revised build?
any recommendations or savings to be had anywhere?

The k models are for overclocking, in your op you said you were not very pc/hardware savy, in this case I would recommend the non k version otherwise a 3470. (can't get on to wootware website, wanted to see if they had stock of 7870 as a 7870 with a slightly lower i5 is better than a 7850 with a 3570/k)
Both boards are pretty much the same.
Otherwise all looks good.

Even a i5 3330 would be a good choice, also try get a ASRock H61 wootware has them for about R400 they are pretty good motherboards

Thanks very much for the advice Simon, I never knew about the 'k' models being overclockers and I've no intention what so ever to overclock :P

P.S just had a look at esquire and their prices are really good :)

Send a pm to The Joker here, he is a lot cheaper then Esquire and gives better service. He will probably hook you up with a wicked rig at a much better price.
