Hey guys
I thought I would update you on my my latest project. I recently picked up an msi z97 gaming 5 mobo and now I'm looking for a CPU and RAM to match.
So far my plan is to get an i5 4690k and Corsair vengeance pro 2x 4GB ram set. What are your thoughts guys?
Exactly what I told myself. Then RAM prices shot through the roof...now its double what it was despite being 4 year old tech. WTFThe first question is will you be overclocking. If not, go for a non K chip perhaps. However this chip really is awesome, especially if you overclock it.
I have 8GB of RAM, and the most I've ever used was 6. something; however I'm sure you can fill up the 8GB if you run a lot of things at once. You can always get 8GB now, and then get another 2x4GB sticks later on if you feel 8GB is not enough.
The parts seem like a good choice. If you have an aftermarket cooler, just make sure that it will fit on the CPU with the Vengeance heat spreaders not getting in the way.

My psu is pretty quiet, I ran my pc earlier with just the CPU and RAM to test it and it was near silent. Then I plugged in my fans and the noise picked up
Mine also isn't that loud, I have 7 fans installed with 4 pulling in fresh air. The nice part is that they are connected to a fan controller and most of the time are running at 20% so it's not that loud but also pretty cool. My case is sitting at 30c right now.I have 120mm fans on the front of my case and I'm sure it's what's causing the most noise (relatively speaking since my system isn't very loud - audible, not loud).
