New pc time

Tank

Overkill Specialist
right so due to my own impatience and things working out differently i'll be buying my pc next month as opposed to september/october

will have around R15k to budget and play with.

need the following

gpu, cpu, mobo, ram, psu, case and dvd writer.

joker already knows, but i want to cover my bases and get as much info as possible

I would recommend going for something along these lines bud

-Intel Core i5 3570K, 3.5GHz
-ASUS P8Z77-V
-G.Skill 16GB (4x 4GB) DDR3 2133
-PNY GeForce GTX 670 XLR8 Enthusiast Edition
-OCZ Vertex 4 128GB Sata 6G SSD
-Corsair TX650M 650w Modular Psu
-Corsair Carbide 500R White/Black Edition
-Samsung/LG/Sony 24x DVD Writer

You could drop the SSD and go for a GTX680 instead of the 670 although I doubt you'll notice any difference in performance.
The SSD on the other hand will make a noticeable difference.

Edit: You could look at a full on AMD alternative but honestly you'll save maybe R500 and you'll end up with a Rig that's not as future proof.

looks good :)

It is a really epic machine.
You're also right to want to upgrade now, there is nothing "New" in the pipe line for the next few months, so nothing holding you back mate. As far as future proofing goes, we could add a Antec Kuhler 620 LCS (Liquid cooling solution) and overclock the cpu to around 4.3Ghz, which will give you another nice boost in performance. Completely up to you though.

As it stands though you don't really need to do that. But you'll def get more Bang for you're buck that way.

Awesome bud

I am going down to you're neck of the woods in about 3 weeks from now, so you get personal delivery as well :D

Why the forum thread to get a quote from Joker? :) PM works too guise....

Its a good thing, it lets people know what he is getting for the money, and we have spoken via pm's quite a bit :)

Nice one Tank.... would love to see your final build!! @Joker, give us a holler when u're down in Durban Area - always up for a Castle or Green Mamba or Gold Tequila (Tank just loves these, hey mate?).

Pc build looks good but one thing I would do, pop a 486 in there that way you can see a real performance increase :D

Tank going to hijack your thread a little.

What do you guys think of this combo?
Would it run on a 600w psu
ASUS Crosshair V Formula/Thunderbolt AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD FX 8150 3.6GHz ( Eight Core Bulldozer Processor
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory

Have R6000 and would like to upgrade the CPU MB RAM.
Currently have a dual core intel 775 2.8ghz 4Gig ran 800
nvidia Gts 250

Depends on the PSU.

I'm running a:

Phenom 965 BE (3,4Ghz) Quad core CPU
8GB DDRIII Corsair RAM
Radeon HD 7850 (@1050Mhz)
1x 1TB HDD, 1x 1.5TB HDD

All off a 5 year old 500w PSU and its singing along nicely. So if it's a good brand PSU you have it will be more than enough.

Why not get an i5 CPU rather than the Bulldozer?

Still looking around just found that deal pretty nice but open to suggestions.
Will search harder for stuff this weekend for now just probing around.

As for the PSU Its made in china and a sticker of procase on it also about 6 years old still going strong tough.

Well look at these.

i5 2500k CPU = R2358

Gigabyte ATX Mobo = R1402

2x Corsair Vengeance - 4GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM = R676
http://www.takealot.com/electronics/pc-components-1111/corsair-vengeance-4gb-ddr3-1600mhz,8944978

Total = R4436 and leaves you with around R1500.

I have R1000 set apart for a New case or Psu if need be.
Sorry but not a fan of Gigabyte,
First choice is MSI but ofcourse not set in stone.
But having a hard time finding a Motherboard that the gpu won't block something like the battery, sata port.
Busy looking at this
