New PC Upgrade

I am pretty disappointed with AMD's lack of bulldozer hype... I mean if i wanted large number of sales i would be trying harder. hope this isn't a sign of another postponement.

A far as I know, the Core i7 3xxx series, a.k.a Sand Bridge E[xtreme] will use socket LGA 2011, so a current X68 motherboard would not help. Being such extreme high end chips, they are likely to cost a pretty penny! I can get thchmark. I can get P67A-GD55 for a pretty decent price if I choose to go Core i5 2400. Then again, given that I don't overclock, I may be able to get away with a simpler board -as long is it still full ATX.

I chatted to my friend about my upgrade yesterday. He recommended that I wait until January or February. He also said that I should establish whether there would be a significant and clearly noticeable performance increase between my Core 2 Duo E8400 and Phenom II/AMD FX/Core i5 2400. Would running 3D Mark be an accurate way of gauging this, or is that still too much of a synthetic benchmark? nWould it be best ofr me to measure framerates across a number of my games and compare these figures to those on the internet?

Then the other option would be to keep what I have until it eventually breaks, thus only replacing parts when I absolutely have to. After all, my games do still run on my current hardware.

And if not, there are always console versions. :-P

Look at benchmarks of sites online like tomshardware and anandtech.

They test components using benchmark setups (same ram, hard drives, etc) to test and would be better than you trying to do it at home with different hardware setups.

Saves a lot of time and energy.
