I haven't changed anything on my PC for the last two to three years. It's getting old and little bugs and hassles are starting to show up.

So....... upgrade time!! :D I'll be buying parts on a month by month basis starting in January and finishing (hopefully!) in March.

Here what I'm looking at:

Mobo: Asus Rampage II Extreme (maybe too high end?)
CPU: i7 920 (I'd like to OC it to 3.4Ghz)
CPU cooler: Swiftech Apogee GTZ
Case: CM Cosmos S
PSU: Corsair 1KW (big I know, but I want a modular PSU)
RAM: 3x 2GB Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz (Worth it going 2000Mhz?)


I still need to choose between the rest of the componants:

Headset: Roccat Kave or Logitech G35?
LCD: Samsung 2494HS or Samsung T240? (I'd rather go with the 2494HS myself)
Sound Card: Since Creative is no longer available which Asus sound card would be recommended?

PS: I'll be keeping my 8800Ultra as my G-card. Don't have enough cash to get a new one just yet. :o

I know. BUT its just a fad, it dies out after a day or 2. My mate lived with me for a week, he has G35's. He sold them to buy a set of Kave's like mine :)

Mobo: fine
CPU: i5 750, just as good for a lot less price
cooler : personal pref
case : see above
PSU : i have the CM version of that
RAM : DDR3 - 1666 is fine believe me

headset : G35 def
LCD : 2494HS for the 16:9 n Hi-Def
S/card : Asus Xonar
Speakers : Logitechs X-530

GFX : 5850

ur gfx card will be the bottleneck in this system just remember that :)
 
Bleh, just noticed that I have the wrong mobo. Looking for the Rampage II Extreme. :o

I'll have to see what my cash flow situation is like. If I don't have enough I'll change the mobo and CPU to i5.

It'll have to do for now. :( I'll get something else later in the year.
 
I have the Asus - ROG for my AMD 955 BE.

It's actually a pity, i really like the i5 cpu's. If i waited a bit longer I would've gotton it honestly. I'll prob get it next year tbh :)

Why don't u sell ur 8800 Ultra to Solitude. He needs a new one :p

As for the S/card. DX is fine, unless u plan on runnin fibre for ur sound lol

I'll def be selling my old parts off, but I'm worried about that 8800Ultra. I've been been seeing some BSOD screens popping up but don't know if it's the card or something else. Don't wanna stick someone with a crappy part.

Which is why I'll stick with it till I've saved up enough to get a new card. Just to make sure it's fine.

Cosmos S has 5 120mm fans, one 240mm fan and the PSU at the bottom. :cool:

But it has to be the Cosmos S since I need the special mounting area at the top on the inside to mount my 360 radiator.

Also I like the look of the Cosmos S better. :p

PSU: I'll stick with my Corsair 650Watt for now, it's only two months old.
RAM: 3x 2GB Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz
LCD: Samsung 2494HS
Sound Card: Asus Xonar D2X

Will still decide whether I get an G35 or a Kave. It's about 55% in favour of the Kave atm. ;)

Total around R18k

Roll on January!!!!!!!
 
Dude, you will still be able to get some decent $$$ for your ultra, sell that and maybe get like a 4850 or a 4870.

Yeah, that'll happen next year. I still want to build a LAN PC as well while I'm at it.

So far I've got my CPU and LCD. Will see if they got the rest of the stuff today. No-one has the Cosmos S in stock tho so I'm forced to wait till next year anyways.

I say get the Roccat Kave 5.1
The sound Morph thing with the G35 is a Gimmick. And the sound Quality of the Kave is Much Better, more Comfertable, and Cheaper. Round about R850 for the Kave, where as the G35 is about R1200+
The Cosmos is I Nice case, but if you like to go to lan's, you will Regret Buying such a big, heavy case.
So if you like to Lan,, i Would Sugest getting the CM STORM SNIPER or the Cm HAF932.
The Storm has a nice Handle, and it is a case with Good Airflow, The HAF932 do not have a handle, but Is a Bigger case than the Storm Sniper, with way better airflow. Both those cases will Cost you round about R1200 - R1500 Excl vat.
if you Save on "small" things, you might just be able to buy a GForce GTX260, or a Ati HD5770/5890 ???

Yeah the Kave will be my choice when I finally buy a headset. But I'll probably only need it for next years rAge. Got a microphone on my webcam for chatting now.

Like I said in a previous post/thread, I'll build myself a sepperate LAN PC for when I go lanning. Thermaltake Lan Party Case with a nice micro ATX mobo and midrange LGA775 quaddy. I really really need the Cosmos S for the space topside. Mounting a radiator outside just doesn't work for me anymore.

As for the g-card, I'm allready getting over 60fps on most games at full detail. Getting a new card just so that I can get 100fps seems like a waste to me. When a game finally comes out that stresses my card to the extent that I need a new card..... then, I'll get a new card.
