New PS3 v3.21 Firmware update

Thing is I have never had any issues updating before. I play some titles online, and download DLC / Patches, most of the time is goes swimmingly. Just this time it kept bombing but my net connection was still fine. Makes me think it was on their side. Either way I got it on my PC and will do it that way.
 
I was gonna put Linux on yellowdog on mine. glad i didn't now. Will you be able to install linux after the update though?
 
no you will not be able to. why didn't you follow the link stupid boy?! haha. that sucks. was looking forward to tweeking Linux on the PS3 during the holidays. ah well there is always the computer i guess
 
It only affects the PS3 fat users, the slim user never had that feature. Not that many people installed linux on thier PS3s. Last i recalled it increased boot time significantly and wasnt worth the extra pain as the PS3 can do alot of things as it is. Maybe they will replace it with a new feature or striped it to make place for something other. We will have to wait and see what Sony have planned.
 
Lets be honest I'm sure ppl didnt get a ps3 "cause u can install linux on it" Altho it's sad to see them removing features without having a replacement for it, they just wanna stop hackers/modders from using linux to crack open the ps3 (too late).

I believe there is a work around where you edit the pup file. I never used the linux option so i don't mind that its gone. But it wasnt removed from the code just removed as an option i think.
 
I installed Yellow Dog on my first PS3. It was a mission back then to get everything working. Not sure what compatibility was like the last year or so. It's nice if for some reason you don't have a PC and want to do word processing and proper browsing and such. All in all I think very few people used it. I installed it and tried it once or twice and then deleted it.

It wasnt worth the effort of installing and not sure if you expierence it, but the boot time really sucked. Not sure if anyone has installed linux recently, since all the new machines do have the option anyway.
 
Hey guys, i dunno if any of u had this problem, but after updating to this firmware version. I played on my ps3 for some time after the firmware and all of a sudden it just froze on me while playing street fighter, after resetting the ps3, i cannot read and disks at all.... Any solutions here? i do believe its the firmware as people has had similar problems like me

So I am getting a 250gb Slim edition. Is it safe for me to update? and How do I update my PS3 Do I need an application to upgrade firmware?
 
i didnt have an issue updating my slim. and no need to apply to update either download it of the net locally available at gaming.do.co.za or throught the update option on your console. welcome and have fun.
