New Quantic Dream Tech Demo

Hehe. It's looks really amazing though, absolutely brilliant acting.

When they start taking her apart and she begs I actually felt sad & Several recent issues featuring the human/machine singularity jumped to mind, Both Deus Ex, iRobot & Mass Effect's Organic vs Synthetic theme.

I know many people complained about Heavy Rain not really being a 'game' game but Quantic's stuff is able to envoke feelings and responses few other games do. If they can take that and make a 'game' game with it... that would be something I want to play.

Why is that? I've only seen parts of Heavy Rain but it looks like something I would really like to get.

The info relating to this "tech" is vague at best. From what I could tell, it's simply new steps in facial recognition/recording to animation. Remember this demo?
Funny thing is, what really makes the emotion come through is actually good acting!

Its long been speculated that the next step in gaming is combining the acting from movies with the user interface from games. The reason Mass Effect's Shepard is such a popular protagonist... awesome voice acting.

I'm sad after watching that and being told it's only a tech demo, I want that game now. :)

How would you build a game around that?

I was sad midway through and happy when the dude let her join the others, then my mind saw it a the seed of a matrix like robo revolution.

There is so much you can do in that setting and working with themes of what it means to be sentient, exploring the self and who am I. :) Mix that in with science fiction, artificial intelligence or pretty much anything else, and you would have me hooked.

Plot wise yes what about mechanics? I agree that as a plot point this would/could make for an awesome narrative. However I am trying to think more in terms of mechanics.

Well Heavy Rain is still on my 'to play' list, which is unfortunately large, but I would assume it would work like that, where you explored the narrative through the eyes of various protagonists.

Do yourself a favour and play Heavy Rain, its unlike anything else and is well worth the time If you can keep an open mind.

Well, I played Indigo Prophecy by the same developers a couple of weeks back for the first time, and despite being so old, I was amazed at the game. Being able to control various characters from different sides of the story was something new for me. The controls are just a bit annoying, but awesome game.
This game is the reason I really want to get my hands on Heavy Rain.
