New Router - Suggestions

So last night's thunder storm did a number on my Netgear router. It keeps rebooting and the power LED turns red.
I have a spare planet router but that doesn't wanna save the config I set. :/
So anyway, I need a new decent ADSL wireless router..

Any suggestions/recommendations?

Forgot to mention that this is my 3rd Netgear router that died and Yes,I have an APC surge protector.

Ideally you need both for it to be marginally more effective.

However to be much better protected you also need a Type 1 combined lightning and surge protector installed on your main DB board

My personal suggestion for a new DSL router would be the D-Link DSL-2750U ADSL2+ 4-PORT WI-FI ROUTER WITH 3G FAILOVER

Yeah, you need a little bit more that that though. 3G failover is a very nice to have.

Does the 3G fail over link up to a sim card when your ADSL goes down? And if this is the case is there one with LTE fail over?

That's the theory behind it, DSL goes down and you're on the data provided by the mobile network. I have not seen a model with LTE, however I'm sure there are else there should be a compatible LTE device for the router.

Jeez... That puppy will only set me back like 8K :wtf: Iv been looking for a wireless router that has LTE built in, but thats a pretty ridiculous price

i've been running one of those for the past 3 years now, pretty solid

Draytek for GOOD build, but too expensive.

Netgear has been my recommendation for years, but this new Genie OS rubbish they use now is just awful!

DLink is stable and not too complex, Asus also makes routers now which is very good. Both of these allow for 3G failover with a dongle.

Usually you plug in a USB 3G dongle into the router for the secondary link. It should have LTE if the dongle supports it.

Yeah, the worst of the list is Vodacom's rebrand Huawei units. The Altech / Autopage standard ones - mostly used by cellc and mtn - appear to be a lot more compatible.
