New system time

Ok guys after struggling to fix my system and not being able to find the real issue have decided to rather just get a new system , was going to get a new one in july anyway so this just speeds it up.

So need some buying advice.

Firstly budget is R15 000 excluding os.

I would prefer to stick to intel and nvidia but am willing to consider amd and ati if I hear a compelling argument.

Cases: Basicly looking for a big cases with lots of cooling options and must have a window side panel, no modding. Two that I like so far is the HAF X and CM Storm Sniper.

http://www.prophecy.co.za/coolermaster-hafx-rc942kkn1-black-chassis-with-window-p-69924.html

Power supply: I like the corsair 750w TX. Basicly looking for a good 750w that can run today's gfx cards. Any other suggestions.

CPU: I am thinking sandy bridge i5 2500k. Should I consider the lower models or any of the amd options?? I would the k model because I do like to dabble slightly in overclocking.

http://www.prophecy.co.za/intel-cor...3ghz-boxed-processor-sandybridge-p-87342.html

Mobo's: I like asus quite a bit. So I am looking at the P8P67 deluxe or P8P67 evo?? Is the deluxe worth the extra R200?

http://www.prophecy.co.za/asus-p8p67-lga1155-dualchannel-ddr3-pcie-p-87328.html

Ram: Do I go for 1600 mhz or higher frequency?? For now I will be going for a 4 gig(2x2 gig kit). Also what brand??

These kits seem decent to me but I don't know ram that well:

Optical drives: I was thinking on just going for a normal dvd rewriter, don't think blue ray is worth it yet and most of my games are now digital downloads. Asus ok or should I look for something else?

http://www.prophecy.co.za/asus-drw24b3lt-lightscribe-supermulti-sata-dvdwriter-p-83919.html

Harddrives: SSD is just too expensive for the budget I am working with. So was thinking a 1 tb for the os and a 2tb data drive. Which brand is the current preference samsung, seagate or western digital?? I have used seagate and western digital before with any issues.

http://www.prophecy.co.za/western-digital-wd10eals-caviar-blue-sata2-7200rpm-p-85806.html

CPU cooler: I was thinking either the silver arrow, HR 02 or venomous x rt from thermalright.

http://www.prophecy.co.za/thermalright-venomous-cooler-lga77511561366am2am3-p-72151.html

GFX: Here I am thinking the new geforce 560 ti. Basicly I think the 460 isn't strong enough compared to it and the 480,570 and 580 are beyond the budget. Also super clocked or normal edition?? From what I have gathered they should somewhere between R2500-R3000 once they become available.

Assembly: Have to be included in price. Only need the hardware assembly, software install I can do.

OS: Windows 7 home premium dsp. Need to take an os since my old man is taking the old system even though it doesn't 100% anymore.

http://www.prophecy.co.za/microsoft-windows-home-premium-64bit-p-59572.html

So by sums so far that gives me about R16000 ( that's with the gpu estimated at R3000) which is perfectly in line with budget.

Any suggestions would be great.

System will be used for gaming, mostly at 1680x1050 but hoping to go 1920x1200 by end of the year.

I have kb/mouse and gamepads.

Stefan ek sal jou afraai van daai PSU hoor, gaan lees bietjie oor hom, hulle het n tendency om te fail, ek het al 2 van die goed geswap.

Just a quick recap on what I have decided so far so its easier to keep track of where we are going:

Case: Decided on the CM storm sniper black: http://www.prophecy.co.za/coolermaster-storm-sniper-black-mesh-chassis-p-69420.html

PSU: Sticking with the corsair tx750w. http://www.prophecy.co.za/corsair-tx750w-eps12v-750w-720w-p-25607.html

Mobo: Going for the asus p8p67 pro . http://www.prophecy.co.za/intel-core-i52500k-quadcore-lga1155-33ghz-boxed-processor-sandybridge-p-87342.html

CPU: Intel i5 2500k. http://www.prophecy.co.za/intel-core-i52500k-quadcore-lga1155-33ghz-boxed-processor-sandybridge-p-87342.html

Harddrive: Samsung 2 tb for storage: http://www.prophecy.co.za/intel-core-i52500k-quadcore-lga1155-33ghz-boxed-processor-sandybridge-p-87342.html

OCZ 60 gig ssd for os: http://www.prophecy.co.za/oczssd22vtxe60g-vertex-extended-series-60gb-sata2-p-79533.html

Ram: Corsair vengeance ddr 3 1600mhz 8 gig kit: http://www.prophecy.co.za/corsair-cmz8gx3m2a1600c9-vengeance-2x4gb-ddr31600-desktop-p-86673.html

Dvd drive: Asus 24X http://www.prophecy.co.za/asus-drw24b1st-sata-supermulti-drive-p-85230.html

CPU cooler: Thermalright Venomous X RT: http://www.prophecy.co.za/thermalright-venomous-cooler-lga77511561366am2am3-p-72151.html

OS: Windows 7 home premium x64 dsp:http://www.prophecy.co.za/microsoft-windows-home-premium-64bit-p-59572.html

So that still leaves about R3000 for gpu since we want to stay inside R15000(excluding os so about R16 000 in total).

Just one final question for now the case still has room for a 120x25mm side panel fan and a 140mm bottom fan as optional. Would you recommend these or is the case cool enough without it?

Switched the SSD drive for a 500 gig sata 2 western digital so now I can accommodate a geforce 570 gtx palit sonic platinum.

CPU. You'll struggle to get a k cpu...nobody has them atm. I'd try to push for a i7, but that would mean you need to change the mobo and ram, which would bust the budget.

DVD. Can't you use your old one? I'd lose the Asus and take an LG/Samsung....cheapest one you can find.

I'd downgrade the ridiculously expensive case & keep the SSD. Since your asking whether to put fans in it cooling isnt the primary motivator for it. Case looks good, but has little effect on performance.

Eta on the 2500k is 28 Feb, I can wait no need to rush and not get sandy bridge.

Case: Is really a personal choice and I like a big case with lots of room. So don't see changing the case.

Dvd: My Old man is taking the old system even with its issues so he is keeping the dvd drive from it. Whether I take lg/samsung or asus is not going to make much difference in terms of budget. They are all between R200-R250.

Nice case I can recommend is the Coolermaster 690 II Advanced. Amazing case for the asking price :) Also, regarding the DVD Writer, been using Liteon for ages now, never had issues, and they sub R200 here.

Thanx for all the advice everyone. Just ordered my system.

On the psu I know maps had some bad experience with this particular model. But I read the reviews and nothing really indicated there is an issue. Also talked with FireStar(owner) of prophecy and they haven't had any issues with any of them they sold. So that's why I went with it.

This is the final system I went for:

Case: Coolermaster CM Storm Sniper Black Mesh: I did consider the cm 690 2 advanced but I just really liked the sniper.
Case fans: I added the 3 optional 2x120mm and 1x140mm fans. All 3 blue led coolermaster silent fans.
Mobo: Went with the asus p8p67 pro. I think it is good value for money if you want to go for sandy bridge.
Cpu: Intel i5 2500k. I prefered to go for the newer sandy bridge cpu and the 2500k was the best value imho.
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Venomous X RT
GPU: Palit Nvidia Sonic Platinum Geforce 570gtx oc
Harddrive OS: Western Digital blue caviar 500 gig sata 2
Hard drive storage: Samsung Eco green 2 tb sata 2
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb kit ddr 3 1600mhz 1.5v
Dvd drive: Asus 24x rewriter
Psu: Corsair Tx750W
OS: Windows 7 home premium x64 dsp

Total after every thing is said and done was R16212

Case,Ram and CPU we have to wait for. But I think this is a well balanced system.

I will supply benchies and other info once system arrives.

Even with the sandy bridge issue, its not going to affect my build too much. I was given 3 options. 1. Wait for the new mobo's likely eta april. 2. Get a refund. 3. Take the mobo as is and just use the 3gb/s sata ports and then if I want swapout the mobo when the revised mobo's arrived.

I took option 3.

Update on how my build is going. Only waiting for the cpu now. Can get the non k right away but want 2500k so eta is 28 Feb.

Awesome. Im waiting for the high end sandy bridge which will have 6 cores! Because im going to be doing a lot of rendering and vmware stuff too

Go to be adding the pics and benchmark results now. All results are at stock, haven't yet toyed around with it and with the performance its giving haven't felt the need. Really a fantastic system system so far.

First up 3dmark 11: P5305

Just to compare a bit highest my previous system managed was 10339.

With baman arkam asylum's bench mark test with everything max(physx as well) I managed an average of 59fps.

Crysis(not warhead, fully patched): 64bit time demo settings 4aa and all other settings high: average of 76fps.
32bit 4 aa and all settings high: average 77fps.

64 bit with 4aa and everything very high : 42fps average.
32bit with 4aa and everything very high: 44 fps average.

More results and pics in a bit.

Some of the pics aren't great, I hope you can guys can manage to see what I tried to capture:
