New upcoming AMD processor - RUMOR ALERT - 12 Cores clocked at 6GHZ

6GHz??? WTF. They just broke 5GHz and they didn't really get that right. But anywho it would be cool to have 12 cores at 6GHz!

12-core Opterons from the Abu Dhabi family have a 115W TDP, 12MB of L2 cache and 16MB of L3 on the 32nm process. AMD's next step can only be 28nm right now, because the companies on the 25nm manufacturing process produce silicon for NAND flash memory. Their partners are Global Foundries and TSMC and neither currently have a 25nm process suitable for processors. Also, socket G34 is huge and hosts something like an extra 600 pins.

Buckets of salt need to be taken for this one. AMD's not investing a lot of resources into "big core" any more and I can't see them reviving the Phenom brand either. Its too soon, and FX has taken quite a hold.

Also, the AES instruction set is missing.

Other things I've also noticed:

  • HT speed would need a x39/x40 multiplier
  • The proper clock speed should be 6027.32GHz
  • That TDP is still wack (these cores would need to be Jaguar-based to meet those power levels, and Jaguar tops out at 2.6GHz from what we know about the PS4)
  • Socket AM3+ is dead, I expect FM2+ to replace it.
